I've been thinking... because my 10 gallon is now open since I bought the goldies a bigger home... that I might make it into a divided betta tank like my 8 gallon. However, I've been trying to figure out if I should make it a split tank, have 3 fish, or 4 fish. So far I'm thinking 3... but I'm not sure.
2 bettas in the tank would be fine in that they'd have plenty of room, but I just feel like it'd be too much open space than I'd like. Obviously that'd be 5 gallons per fish.
3 almost sounds perfect, but again... I'm not sure. I want what's best for the fish and what's best for myself as well. 3 would be about 3 1/3 gallons per fish, which seems best, but I'm just not sure.
4 seems a bit small (though that'd still be 2.5 gallons per fish). However, me being the fish hoarder that I am really wants more fish than fewer... but again, I'm just not sure.
Any thoughts? Also, do you know anybody that either does discounts for buying multiple bettas at once or has very decently priced fish (like... less than 30$ per fish). I might just go to my LFS for bettas, but I've fallen in love with koi and marble bettas and theirs are just as expensive as they would be online.

In my opinion, 3 bettas in a 10g is perfect if you have a lot of bettas. I have 4 in one tank because I didn't restrain myself when I saw Lafayette in his gross cup at Walmart. So 4in one tank works, but isn't totally ideal (still better than a 1 gallon).
I know of a breeder on instagram that does discounts, but it's like if you buy 10 at a time or something. I've never bought online, I prefer to get my fish when the opportunity arises, like just randomly going into petsmart and seeing my dream fish and having room for him. I know FSs typically don't carry kois, but they do get them in occasionally and can be mislabeled. Good luck on the search!

I definitely have decided on 3 in the 10 gallon (although I'm going to make an extra divider in case there happens to be a forth XD ).
I also think I've decided to just go to my LFS or possibly Petland or Petco. They usually have marbles, though they're usually also quite a bit more expensive than the rest. I'm just debating on if I want to risk having my heart broken by a rescue or be essentially confident by my LFS' bettas... part of me wants a rescue because boy is it hard seeing so many beautiful fish stuck in those filthy, tiny cups. Yet part of me doesn't want to give those places money so they can keep doing it... it's a hard choice.

I just think of it this way; if you don't buy that rescue fish, someone else probably will. Even if someone else doesn't, when it dies they'll just restock at almost no loss to them. It really doesn't impact these chain stores whether people boycott them, so if you want that fish, go buy him!!
