No problem! I still have to get or make you something for your birthday too.
I was thinking, maybe the both of us could wait until we move into the dorms and then we could have a little Belated Summer-Birthday Celebration, like with cupcakes or mug cakes or something fun like that.

Hi! How's going? ^_^
I was going to watch "Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde" D. Scott's one, but unfortunately the link does not seem to work (it charges, but there is no video). >___< Maybe is a temporary issue? Does it work with you?
That's a shame, because I really wanted to see it!

golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-07-19 07:02:54 +0000 UTC]
Hi! ^_^ Life is going very well, partly because I was able to download and watch the Jekyll and Hyde movie starring John Hannah. Yay! It was cheesy and predictable for the most part, but entertaining nonetheless. John Hannah did do a pretty good job acting the two characters, And the sort-of-yaoi scene between Hyde and Jekyll was delicious. I was disappointed, though, when they didn't actually kiss, but there's always the Scott version for that...
Speaking of which, the video link for the Scott movie worked for me. Since it didn't work for you, I found some other sites that have the movie. They all worked for me, so between all of them, at least one should work for you:
I was going to put all the links here, but the system kept saying it thought my message was spam, so I'll put them all on the J/H Resource page instead, where I can have as many links as I like.
If all else fails, there's also another link for it recently posted for it on the J+H Resource Page . If absolutely none of those works for you, it could be that you need to use an American IP address or a proxy, or maybe you need to use a different internet browser to watch them, because there is NO reason so many links from so many different sites would all fail. In any case, I'd recommend you just try the links out and see if one works.
Oh yes, I also put up a link to the Jekyll and Hyde adapted play by David Edgar, which you should download and read, because it is amazing. You can't miss it - it's the first link on the J+H resource page and marked "new", with stars and everything. It's brilliant!

Ok, so I finally saw Dougray Scott's. What I have to say?
...Well, not bad. Though I still prefer John Hannah's (I don't really use to like modern adaptation).
There were cool parts as well, specially the beginning and the transformation scene.
When he got hit by a truck, I was "WTF??!" .
I don't get the confrontation...why would he kiss himself? O.o I'm bugged!
And as a matter of fact, I did not like the ending. It was so...uhm...I can't really find words to describe it.
Anyway, It was nice to see. Something new I guess.
Now, it should be Jacqueline Hyde's turn...if only it wasn't almost porn! ... Is it?
You may be happy to know that I'm proceeding, slowly but better than nothing, with my comic!
I am literally cursing the "Red Rat". It is quite hard to imagine the background, you know. Not to mention the girls' design.
Wish me luck? XD
Soon or later, I shall be able to update with more than 60 new pages. I just can't wait for the moment! XD
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-07-28 03:31:23 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the Dougray Scott movie isn't terribly good, but even though the kiss made no sense I liked that they did it at all - the John Hannah movie was a little homoerotic, and I heard that a Jekyll and Hyde movie made in 1981 featured a scene with Hyde and a male prostitute, but never has a movie had Jekyll and Hyde kiss. I can only hope the trend continues.
Haha, ALMOST porn? The only reason it might not be classified as such is because it doesn't actually show any genitals. Otherwise, it's just sex, transformations, cheesy plot, and more sex. It is a pretty entertaining movie, but very silly.
You could always watch "Dr. Pyckle and Mr. Pryde" if you want to see something new. It's a really cute spoof. Otherwise, some of the adapted plays interesting... or you could watch the movie Fight Club. It's a good movie, and though it's not specifically about Jekyll and Hyde, it contains many similar elements.
Yay progress! I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Red Rat. I suppose a brothel/theater would be a bit tricky to envision...
Wow, 60 pages?!? Awesome! I can't wait to see them. Your dedication and work ethic are really admirable.^_^

I'm not quite sure, but once I read Stevenson's novel. There was a note where many criticists assumed that Jekyll was homosexual.
Well, it may be, since the novel did not described what Hyde do.
Now let's see with Keanu Reeves. Would it be a natural Playboy, or an ambiguous man?
Uhm, a cheesy-sexy story, uh? Well, soon or later I should try to see it...if I can stand it.
I'm also watching "Dr Pyckle and Mr Pryde". I like spoofs! ^.^
Never heard of Fight Club's Jekyll Hyde resemblances. I will see for it.
Heh, thank you ^_^. I already done 60 pages, but the most frustrating part now is the cleaning. X_X Red Rat is pretty quick, possibly dull drawn since it wasn't my target to focus the attention on the place, rather on a pretty important character.
I also need to remake a bunch of pages, since they looked a bit lame imo.
Anyway, I can't wait for the update. Wonder if I should wait until I have all 60 ready or not XD.
In any case, I should really post something sketchy, I really feel the need to.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-07-29 14:34:43 +0000 UTC]
I found a really thorough article that outlines what elements of Stevenson's novel predispose it to a homosexual interpretation, including the characters and language used. For instance, all of the main characters in the novel are male, and all of their closest relationships are with males. None of them have been mentioned to have wives, not even Enfield. What's more, the females that are in the novel don't have very great roles to play - one's an ugly old hag, two of them are trampled or beaten by Hyde, and one existed only to witness Carew's murder and inform the police.
And those are just the obvious points. There's a link to it on the Resource page. It's really quite fascinating.
Well you seem to have a good system - it's much easier to get the first drafts of everything done really quickly and then have to go back and change a few than to spend a lot of time on each page, and lose momentum.
I think you should wait to update until you have all 60 done - that way, when you're done uploading them you kno you're completely done with everything. It's much more fun than having to finish part, then have to finish another part, and then have to finish another...
With only one deadline, you can relax better afterward because you know you're totally finished.
You should post some character sketches. I'm really interested in what kind of side characters you're including.

I'm gonna read that article, I'm quite interested on the matter.
XD Eheh...Well... I did not resist, so I just submit 5 pages, mostly describing the Red rat and ***dum da dum*** the song "Good N' Evil".
But I swear I will work on the other 55 and more before submit them again! ;D.
I'd like to receave your comment on the pages, since I focused my work on Hyde...and another pretty lady. ^_^ Which is an uncommon event, as you will see.
Perhaps I will post a pair of sketches.
Ahah, I also have a sketch where every single character on the comic (including a pair from Dbz itself) jerks Kur...ehm, I mean Jekyll hypotetical ponytail. Looks pretty funny.

WOW, really?!? That's great! Two new movies at once is really awesome, plus there's the one that the Hatchery has been planning, which makes three possible new movies at once!
I can't believe they're going to have Keanu Reeves as Jekyll and Hyde... I wonder how he'll be? He's not the worst candidate they could have picked, I suppose. It will be interesting to see if he can rise to the challenge.
But yes, wow! Thanks so much for telling me about this; I must go spread the news!

GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-05-14 16:02:41 +0000 UTC]
I saw Keanu Reeves on "Dracula". He was pretty odd in 1800 clothes, but he made it fine. Prolly a bit unexpressive, but who knows, he is surely better than...uh...Zack Efron, for example!
Whenever you have any new info and news, please tell me!
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-05-15 02:09:35 +0000 UTC]
Yes, he DEFINITELY is a much better candidate than Zac Efron. They certainly could have done a lot worse!
Haha, now Keanu Reeves is not the One.... but TWO!
---
As for new info, yet another movie has been announced!!
It's going to be a modern adaptation of the story, and plans to star Forest Whitaker and Curtis Jackson (Fifty Cent) as Jekyll and Hyde.
I'm really glad that we're going to get a third movie, but I'm dubious as to how good I think it might turn out to be. Modern adaptations do have the potential for working with the story in new, unique ways, but they also have the potential to be... not so good. And having Fifty Cent play one of the lead roles... I really don't know enough about him to judge anything, I suppose.
What do you think?
Here's the article that I got the news from, if you want to check it out: [link]

GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-05-15 14:26:46 +0000 UTC]
Teeheh. I pretty trust Keanu Reeves. Hope he does well! He surely looks good on Victorian clothes. But in my opinion, if only he was not a Comical Actor, Jim Carrey would be great as a double personality doctor. (if you have seen Me, Myself and Irene, you know what I'm talking about!)
I wonder what about if the Hoff have been the main character. Not the musical version, naturally.(leave the songs to people like Rob Evans, Cuccioli ecc. )
Uhm, I don't know... 50 cent as Jekyll and Hyde, modern adaptions... I'm for the classical 1800 Jekyll and Hyde, but who knows...it might be as good as "O".
Only time can prove its quality, but I'm doubtful!
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-05-16 23:00:23 +0000 UTC]
I have seen Me, Myself and Irene - although it had a completely ridiculous representation of MPD (almost as bad as the United States of Tara), Jim Carrey did do a great job of switching between personalities, and he's a great actor. I can totally picture him as Jekyll and Hyde.
If they were ever going to do a serious movie with a female version of Jekyll and Hyde, I would hope that Sally Field would get the part. She did an amazing job in Sybil, and in that she had to play at least seven different personalities. For her, two would be a piece of cake!
It would be interesting to see what Hoff would do different playing Jekyll and Hyde in a movie rather than the Musical. He would probably do a much better job with the characters if he didn't have to sing.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-05-17 15:52:39 +0000 UTC]
Jim Carrey definitely is great. I have the confirm after seeing "Number 23". Who says that he can only do Comic movies?!
Uhm, a Drs. Jekyll/Mrs.Hyde...I have a bad feeling about this. Some crazy director may probably turn it into a semi-erotic-porn movie (oh, wait...there is! On youtube, damn! A man-to-horny woman one, as a matter of fact!) ^_^" Good lord!
But who knows? For example, mentioning genderbender style... "Dr. Jekyll & Mrs. Hyde" was cool.
A serious movie can be nice as well, regarding a female main character.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-05-17 17:48:52 +0000 UTC]
I know, I'm not really a fan of the man-to-horny-woman movies either, or really any of the erotic JH movies that I've heard of. Dr. Jekyll and Mrs. Hyde was silly but in a tolerable way, but Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde was really cheesy.
However, the movie 'Jacqueline Hyde' does sound interesting for it's different take on the story (a woman finds a serum that allows her to shape-shift, and each shape she takes has a different personality, but they start taking her over the more she uses them). I haven't been able to find it, though, since it's not terribly well known.
If there was a more serious gender-bender Jekyll and Hyde, I'd love to see it.

GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-05-27 19:40:56 +0000 UTC]
To tell the truth, sounds like a porn
Well, that should explain why is is so not known...
Anyway, a serious Jekyll Hyde gender-bender is fine!
Ah, yes...have you seen Jekyll+Hyde, starring those group of dumb young scientists?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-05-28 21:46:07 +0000 UTC]
I have indeed! It was okay, but I wasn't impressed by how they tried to twist the story. Hyde seemed more like a drugged-up, drug-dealing wannabe sadist than a truly frightening psychopath. All of the other characters seemed a bit off too, I just couldn't sympathize with any of them.
Overall, the movie just seemed like a rather elaborate way to say "don't do drugs - unless you want go crazy, deal drugs, murder your friends and then commit suicide", while only using the Jekyll and Hyde material as a pretext for their own message.
I'm interested in hearing what you thought on it, too. Did you think it seemed really "Jekyll and Hyde' enough?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-05-30 15:54:52 +0000 UTC]
I didn't see the whole thing, but I saw a pair of scenes. Not bad acting, if we consider that those actors were almost amateur.
It is clearly an anti-drug movie (what was that? A mix of Ecstasy and some other crap, is it?) , which used Jekyll and Hyde name only to get fame.
The original Jekyll was enjoying being Hyde at first, absolutely. Plus, Hyde was a different personality, not a simple Jekyll gone crazy after being on drugs.
At least drugs may alter your behaviour, give you allucinations, not split your personality (I guess, at least) into a separate, not to mention self-thinking entity.
So I guess that it didn't seem enough "Jekyll and Hyde" to me.
I discovered by searching on youtube, that there were tons of different movies. The last one I saw, I can't find it anywhere, is this.
[link]
I can't find an Italian version of the one with Dougray Scott, but if only I was able to find an online video... I can understand even the English one! >___<
Anyway, I bought today John Hannah's version! I simply can't wait to see how it is...all I have to do is wait 3-4 days!
I know he cannot disappoint me! He is a good actor, after all. Too bad that it was an exclusive UK movie, so it did not grow famous.
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
golddew In reply to GT18 [2009-06-02 20:07:34 +0000 UTC]
Having researched the crap out of Mutliple Personality Disorder, I do agree that drugs can't split your personalities off - only horrible psychological pain or trauma can. Going through the transformation would probably do that, what with the skin-melting and the bones and body structure changing. It sounds really painful. You'd think Jekyll would have kept some sort of painkiller on hand to handle the aftereffects...
Anyways, if you want to watch the Dougray Scott version, I found the full English version here: [link]
You'll have to tell me what you think of it.
I've also collected links to quite a few other Jekyll and Hyde movies and such here ([link] ) if you feel like checking them out.
Ooh, you'll have to tell me how the John Hannah version is! I've been thinking about buying it, but I wanted to be sure of the quality before I go spending my very limited funds on a movie. I really want to see it though, so tell me if it's any good!

GT18 In reply to golddew [2009-06-06 09:30:28 +0000 UTC]
I'm goint to watch Dougray Scott's as soon as possible. For now, I give you a short review of John Hannah's! (may God help me with my sometimes-poor-English )
Story: Pretty good, it follows Jekyll's full statement of the case, but with some good variations. Sometimes resembles "Mary Reilly", because there was something tender between Henry and her servant. Jekyll and Hyde are almost the same, there is no noticeable difference, except for the eyes and the voice.
I don't know, there was something Yaoi between Hyde and Jekyll... Jekyll uke, of course! I let you discover how much "Yaoi" it looked.
Acting & dub: Italian dub was average. Jekyll's voice was nice, though. Anyway you won't need to know about Italian dub,'cause original language is always better. Hannah's acting was good, he did a good Jekyll and a good Hyde as well. He also looks hot with Blue eyes!^.^
My Vote: 6,5 on 10.
I thought it was better, but it wasn't so bad. It was actually pretty good, so If you are a fan, you can't miss it!
What is a shame: Hyde and Jekyll are the same, there is no change at all, so it is sometimes hard to tell when he's Hyde and when he's Jekyll. So,Hyde was perfectly recognizable, that makes a Hard way for him to have fun and then disappear afterwards.
There was the young girl scene, but Hyde did not stamp her. Curious variation anyway.
There was also a quite interesting part, that explains where Edward Hyde's name came from.
The movie is 96' long, then I can tell that it was a bit hasty. I wish it could have been a bit longer (Mary Reilly was 120' )
Conclusion: Not a bad movie, but not outstanding. Interesting and pretty faithfull to the original, too bad for Hyde and Jekyll's look.
The walking stick was MONDO COOL!
Don't forget I saw the movie once. I'll probably change my review when I see it many times. ^.^

Your English is great so far as I've seen, but a language when spoken can be more difficult to understand than when it's written, especially when people talk fast. Well, if you do end up having any trouble (though I doubt you will) I'd be happy to help.
Thanks for giving me your review! I'll definitely try to purchase the movie. There have certainly been worse Jekyll and Hyde adaptations, and any version which actually has an explanation for why and how Hyde comes up with his name gets a bonus in my book (yours included).
Ooh, Jekyll and Hyde yaoi, you say? Hot! Jekyll would indeed be the uke. Well, the Dougray Scott movie also has a little something like that, though I won't spoil any more details. You'll just have to watch it to find out.
Hyde/Utterson yaoi might be cool too. Utterson's repressed his desires (sexual and otherwise) for a long time, so I can see Hyde having fun breaking down those barriers to seduce/sexually harass him.
...Hmm, I wonder if I should do anything with this? I feel kind of inspired...
Oh yeah, I found a really funny article about the upcoming Jekyll and Hyde movie, if you want to read it: [link]

Then you'll have to show me! It may be the first and last time I can see a yaoi scene! XD
Uhm, I'm planning to do a Prologue to J+H. It is always a DBZ story based on Jekyll and Hyde, after all, so there is a need of an explanation.
What I'm trying to do is to keep both DBZ and J+H storylines linked, so that everyone - DBZ fan or J+H fan- can enjoy it...even if in this case Jekyll is a DBZ character. At least, I hope so.
That article was royally funny! XD Gosh that is the case to say... "still I pray everyday Keanu may find his way"
Ah, once I finish the stage period (yeah, that's why I'm vanished), I'm going to see that infamous Dougray's Scott movie! ;D First impression since I saw the first 5 min...well, great quote: "Begone, before I change my mind..." ***2 min later*** "...Changed my mind!"
