Yeah, you're going to beat me. I have 10k more to write, and since I kinda finished my novel early, I'm just doing an "extra story" section in the back where I'm putting a longer than the longer short story short story in.

It was the opposite for me- I tried Achaea, but I didn't really like it much, so I joined Lusternia.

Really? Well, I had already been on Achaea for a while when I first tried Lusternia, but then when I tried it, it just seemed like another version of Achaea with basically the same structure and everything.
...does Lusternia have chervil? I tried I think all of the Iron Realms games but one, and in one of them I ended up on this island with a seagull after the tutorial/intro, and then this guy came and started eating sprigs of chervil. Repeatedly.

I tried Achaea and Lusternia! They're so text-based! There's no room for the imagination because it tells you everything.
And yes, Runescape does suck, but it has no plot, so that's not really fair.

Maybe I should try Achaea again. What put me off is that when I joined Lusternia, people immediately greeted me and said 'Read GHELP SOMETHING' then told me what to use all my skills for, but in Achaea, no one told me what to do and I just blundered around getting killed by stuff
But maybe it was because I joined as an Occultist... are they sort of unfriendly to noobs?

Occultists are aligned with Chaos. And maybe a bit evil. Perhaps those peoples aren't as eager to help as the good-aligned?
Also, Lusternia utilizes guilds- hence the helpful "read GHELP" people, but on Achaea those are separated into classes (which contain the skills, but aren't as people-helpful and don't interact as much) and houses (which are the people that help you and have help files). For all that advice and stuffs, try joining a house.

I always thought Achaea was a bit confusing with the separate classes/houses/cities, but ehhh, maybe Achaeans would find Lusty confusing.

After you finish the Trial of Rebirth, you'll be dropped off at the Portals. Just read the signs there, and there'll be a direction to get to Certimene. Once you get to Certimene, he'll greet you and give you some info on all the houses and the maybe some of the requirements, too. Some houses you have to apply to, but most of them you can just join through Certimene. From my experience with houses, once you join someone will greet you and someone will take you through an introduction and teach you alot of the stuff you need to know. After that, they'll probably tell you the requirements to ascend to the next house rank, and you can just work towards those.
I'm a Druid, houseless(I used to be in the Sentinels, though), and in Ashtan.
Eh, I didn't like Lusternia mainly because you needed to be in a guild to get skills.
