Hello, I hope you don't mind that I used your photo's as reference for painting studies I did to improve my painting skills? If you prefer them not to be in my gallery, I will keep the studies I make of your aircraft offline just for personal training.

That's O.K. I like your aviation photos. I just dug out an old pencil sketch I did for an oil painting I did while in the NAVY. I painted it for my Naval Aviator boss. It is of two A7 Corsair's - we were at NAS Lemoore in 1970. He flew the lead Corsair. The pair of Corsairs were from VA-122 training squadron attached to the base. I believe the squadron's name was "Corsair Collage". I am going to attempt to repaint it from the sketch and memory and will post the sketch and WIP.

Sounds cool. The A7 was a neat airplane. Back in the early 90's we were off the coast of California launching a Tomahawk missile for a test. As we launched the missile an A7 blew down the starboard side to chase it to it's destination. It was pretty cool.

Your gallery is absolutely amazing!
I love the B2, B 52 and F117 bombers. By far, the best looking flying machines.
Happy new year!

Hey, I donΒ΄t know how you are able to take those photos, but many of them are even better than the ones the USAF publishes. GREAT WORK!!!

Call me cheeky, I guess it comes with being English, but do you have any plans for doing a wallpaper pack? I love your images, and it'd be great to have a few in a higher resolution format so that I can enjoy them whilst not browsing DA!
Hope all is well with you! Pete

Pete,
For a cheeky English Gentleman I can make some Wallpapers. You are not the first, but you asked the nicest I don't know about a pack but 1680x1050 seems to be the most popular. Thanks for looking and take care.

Just dropping you a line over a recent journal post I made: [link]
I've always admired your work and you've inspired me in my skills as a photographer. Your epic shots at Air Shows have proven to me that I can produce amazing photos that stand out among the rest of the photographers you find at these shows, both pros and amateurs.
^.^

Thank you. I appreciate you doing that. It's good you feel inspired. Just keep shooting! Try and shoot something different, from a different angle with a different edit.
When you go to the airshow don't stand with the crowd of 50 guys with big lenses. Those clowns will all have the same pictures. Go stand by yourself somewhere. Use your imagination. Sitting at show center with the shutter mashed down at 10fps is not being creative.
Lastly, try and upload your best. I believe quality rules over quantity. For me, I don't want to look at 20 pictures of a backlit Raptor pass. Try and edit one or two or maybe none.
You have a nice gallery going. Keep it up.
JM

Amazing gallery! I just shot my first air show, and hope one day to get images like yours. What lens do you usually use for air shows?
π: 0 β©: 1
jdmimages In reply to RHCheng [2010-09-23 15:50:07 +0000 UTC]
I shoot using an older 300mm f/4 lens. Good glass is the key. Contrary to what most people think, you don't have to have the latest and greatest to make good images. If your on a budget buy the older stuff. Just buy the good older stuff.

Love your gallery. If you could choose any camera/lens you wanted to photograph planes, what would it be?

Thank you and probably a Nikon D700 and Nikon 500mm f/4. But I don't have a spare 15k so I will stick with what I have.

It always helps to know what others use when they take pictures that really knock your socks off. I love photography and really want to start photographing planes, so I'm looking at the best and picking their (your) brains.
