I know I really need to buy a decent camera. These were all taken on my camera phone so they definitely don't look as nice. Your stuff is truly amazing...I'm really flattered you even commented on mine to be honest lol

I have kind of not been around DA and am kind of suprized anyone is still messaging me. There's two major ways I can think of that I make things look gritty: one, a toothbrush. You know, pull your finger across the bristles and it kind of makes a mist. For long controled splatters I generally dip my index finger in paint and flick it onto the paper. It actually is paint from my thumb being flicked by my index finger, but if I put it directly on my thumb it would give me less control.
I enjoy really 'hands on' art or else I get board. I don't know how all these comp kids do it.

im not sure where i get my ideas, i have always done alot of pen swirly stuff when i was bored in maths class lol, apart from that some good inspiration would have to be aubrey beardsley, and other art nouveau artists

Beardsley is great. I really like Alphonse Mucha as well. Have you looked into Maori designs or Celtic yet? I particularly like the old illuminated manuscripts like the Book of Kells. The arts and crafts movement in England has some good stuff too - William Morris is worth checking out.
