Well, my mother was a paratrooper and my father was SF (Green Beret), and I spent time in the Air Force. But your right, Iraq has undermined the authority of the international community and made a laughing stock of the UN. Personally, we should've invaded in 1996 when Iraq kicked out the inspectors. But the Great Wise Bill Clinton decided to let 250,000 troops sit in the sand for a few months. Stupid.

And G "The Liberator" Bush didn't let them sit in the sand, but sent 1000 to their deaths instead. I guess they would've preferred it that way.

I'm not a kid, not to you anyway. I seriously doubt that you've "seen men die" in battle. People do sign up for the army, but noone signs up to die. Just because they signed up it doesn't mean they're expendable. If you really were a soldier you'd known this. Now explain how arabs in Iraq threaten your freedom. Maybe its the same way the North Vietnamese did in 1965.

What does this fantasy have to with what I said? It makes very little sense as of now. Clarify what the man and his two sons represent. If they represent Saddam and his sons then the analogy is flawed since Saddam wasn't the one who started shooting. What you have to understand is that the U.S. attacked a hostile, but not a dangerous regime. This isn't Afghanistan. All Iraq war did was piss off lots of moderate Muslims who now joined ranks of extremists thus making world a more dangerous place.

kathrynlochshire In reply to -silencer- [2004-09-09 18:03:22 +0000 UTC]
i think what she is trying to say is that to the world the father and sons represent the innocence, but to those over there its the complete oposite. most of the extremists in iraq/afganistan are fighting for a belief. and they're beliefs are war and mayhem, this was mainly set by saddam. they only know what they are taught, and they are taught to kill for no reason. now if there is a reason for them to fucking plow two planes into the WTC, then you tell me.
you said the US attacked a hostile, yet not dangerous regime. anything that is hostile WILL and IS a dangerous thing. and afganistan is where the "future" terrorists are trained. in invading afagnistan, we are trying to prevent the education of killing....
and i tell you right now. i would be proud to serve for my nation. Did your country's financial district get completely ass-fucked by some people that dont give a damn about what freedom means. and do you realise that they are against freedom? and you should be pissed at them because your people were there too. your fellow canadians died there too. have you forgotten that it is the WORLD TRADE CENTER. WORLD <== that means not only americans. i know there were canadians there too. as were japanese, chinese, arabic, indian, french, italian etc etc.
there were so many people affected by that attack. not to meantion the attack on the pentagon, and the almost full on attack on our nation's capitol. what you dont understand is they are challenging us, and ill be damned if i go running with my tail between my legs. id sooner die then do that.

I know this is from way back in September but I had to respond to this crap.
"they only know what they are taught, and they are taught to kill for no reason. now if there is a reason for them to fucking plow two planes into the WTC, then you tell me."
This has to be the most closed minded, insanely uninformed statement I have ever heard.
1. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 even the Bush administration has admitted to this
2. "They are taught to kill for no reason" are you even remotely serious? The insurgents in Iraq have a very good reason to fight. 100,000 dead civilians I.E. wives, mothers, husbands, fathers, children, brothers, sisters. We lost 3,000 in the WTC and as a result started two wars (only one of which was justified) they have lost 33 times as many lives and people like you expect them to be thankful.

I'm not going to argue with someone who doesn't know the meaning of "hostile." My country's financial district wasn't, as you say, "fucked up." I'm from Russia and we endured our share of terror, but one thing we won't do is attack a completely wrong country on a false premise and create more terrorists within it. If you want to serve in the army then you can sign up, but don't throw high words at me when you aren't the one fighting.

well im sorry that you think im so UNEDUCATED. i know enough about hostility to know if you dont stop a hostile situation, it WILL get worse. and just because im not fighting, does't mean i dont understand what is going on. and i can tell you we both dont understand FULLY what is going on. we only know what we see and hear and research.
and you said your financial district wasn't fucked up. well there we go. afganistan is where most of the terrorists were being trained. and iraq is where they were being disbatched. and its not false premise. we have seen it from satilite pictures. and im sorry that you come from a country that has gone through more terror than ours. i admit we dont go through as much as other contries do. but you need to be alittle more opened minded and take in some other opinions before you think you are the only one that is right here.

Opinion is only as valid as facts that support it. You make a lot of statements, but no facts, so how am I supposed to accept your argument as valid. By the way, terrorists started pouring to Iraq AFTER the Americans went there. Your own 9/11 commision report stated that there was no connection between Saddam and terrorists. The only reason to go there was WMD and we now know that there are none. If you look at all my writing you will never see me critiquing Afghanistan invasion. That's because I support it. You however made an assumption that I was against it. Because of that I conclude that you make a lot of assumptions, which really doesn't help your argument.

im not saying that they threaten us... well not the civilians.... sadam hussein and his two sons and osama bin ladin were our mane priority... and concerne... im saying that we have the right to sit there and kill innocent ppl but if you were walking throught the streets and three men pop out of no where, and they just happen to be a father and two sons sons, but they started to shoot at you... what are you gonna do? just hop around and hope for the best? you have to defend yourself, and if it calls for it you have to kill some one and/or die. im not saying that our soldiers are signing up to die. they are signing up to protect and defend our country and its people. i dont mean to say these things in which offend you... but i am an OPEN MINDED REPUBLICAN! i listen to your views... so please at least listen to mine.

Listen kid. I've spent my time in the Air Force & I've seen men die. But you can't more different from an artist as a perfessional soldier. Every one of those people are trained to fight. That's their purpose. That's what they are doing. And when they sign the dotted line on their enlistment papers they realize that there may be a time that they could be killed. They (as I have) except that, because they realize that there is something greater than they themselves, like freedom. Yes, death, bloodshed, and war are horrible things, but it makes the endeavour no less worth it. Freedom is so precious that it can only be paid for with the flower of a nation's youth.
