This must be what Ryan was talking about the other day. I mean... while I do still have a couple of sock puppets on there (I think 2 or 3?) that I have forgotten the passwords to, and I know how to mask my IP address, said sock-puppets were created for the purpose of being able to comment on subject matter related to the forum. lol. I haven't bothered trying to change the passwords on them either, because I just don't care to participate that much anymore. So, with that said, hacking the forum is kind of beyond my technological know-how, but I guess I could have created "loads" of empty sock puppets just by creating "loads" of fake email addresses and registering them. Still, I'm really not that interested in bothering you guys? I mean, I'll drop in once a year but... didn't I already do that? I also work full time, and I'm married, and my husband likes to go out a lot. Finding the time for something like that would be kind of difficult. Although, I guess it's kind of flattering that the instant assumption of everyone was that it was me. I must have achieved quite the status as a villain in all of your minds

I realised the dates were February since. Sorry for the hacking accusation. And you did make various personal attacks on people there, including effectively telling someone with an incurable (so far) mental disorder to 'man up' and many other cases I can name, so that status exists for a reason. I appreciate your artwork and your independent speccing, but I don't support that kind of behaviour, or trying to sound like an anime villain.

With that said, in all honesty, we don't know who anyone is on the forum or WHAT they have. Forum members retain anonymity by way of their usernames and the lack of profile pictures. You might to come to know them a little better by getting to know them on some other form of social media, like Facebook, but otherwise, you are accepting what anonymous people tell you about themselves at face value.


Of course, maybe he DOES have social anxiety disorder. Social anxiety disorder however does not affect one's ability to conduct a simple risk-benefit analysis in their heads or to empathize with other people. The person in question wanted to call the police on some children for doorbell-ditching - that's taking things from 0-1,000 right off the bat, and it is frankly beyond childish, and selfish, and yes, he was indeed using his alleged social anxiety as a crutch in the context of the situation to justify his over-the-top solution to his problem. According to his own comments on the matter, there were multiple options at his disposal (including asking his mother/grandfather if they would be willing to find the children responsible), and yet the only option he saw as worth pursuing and defending was the most extreme option. 



And what other cases? Do you mean the time that I disagreed that Tolkien's portrayal of women was sexist (at least in the case of Éowyn), and made the case for why women shouldn't be on the front lines of combat, and why the idea of that being the next feminist frontier was a fucking joke (cuz, you know... war is terrible?), and then a prominent moderator started a thread with the specific purpose of creating a dog-piling session? Or maybe because I disagreed with the notion that the feminist movement is a movement for equality, or perhaps because I support the right to bear arms, or the right to free speech and the freedom of expression (even if it sometimes hurts people's feelings), or the rights of children to their bodily integrity? Honestly, when I look back on so many of those situations with all of you, it is so funny to think of how many different times I was both indirectly and directly called names, harassed by other users, or condescended to about how morally bankrupt or ridiculous I was for seeing the world in a different way, and the staff either did nothing, or fed right into it. lol.


You can take your pick of all of those situations, and the fact remains - all I ever really did was disagree, and write out detailed arguments for those disagreements. Be it the different morphologies of the male and female bodies and how that translates into a combat situation, or the fact that the freedom of speech is an essential component to a free and open society, or the fluoridation of water being demonstrably unhealthy both for humans and for animals, and arguably does nothing to strengthen teeth, or that children should have unadulterated rights to their bodily integrity and an open future barring medical emergency, or that feminism is demonstrably not concerned with gender equality... and it didn't matter what kind of a case I put forward - the result was the same. We can comb through any of those interactions you want, dude. There is no way to white-wash the behavior of people on that forum.

Hmmm. I do have social media, and while I did share them with Canis Lupis for a time, I only share Skype and Discord with members. I have no interest of mixing it with real life, but that's my choice. 

Even if his solution was OTT, and I cannot say I'd have picked the same option, social anxiety and other mental disorders do tend to distort ones line of thinking, so they act in ways that aren't necessarily rational. That's why I don't berate people who are suicidal, because their minds are genuinely distorted enough to make them think it's the only way. On the other hand, I certainly don't condone it like a few there do, and definitely not romanticise it like certain online communities like teenage Tumblrinas do. 

I cant say I understand your justification for taking women off the front lines based off physiology, but I also think war is terrible and shouldn't be romanticised. With regards to feminists, it's a mixed bag. You get decent types who are concerned with equal rights in various areas and avoiding horrible things like sexual assault, whom I do respect. And doubly so for countries where women actually are oppressed, like in ISIS held territory. But extreme Tumblr feminists are an unfortunate element of any group. Extremists tend to pop up anywhere. 

Theres definitely some some controversial views there, but then political discussion isn't allowed there for a reason, with some exceptions. It's not like the alternate history one where no matter what view you hold, someone will report you and you get banned forever because offensiveness is far too easy to take there. I like both those places but in order to get the most, I prefer to avoid politics and stick to the subject matter.

Nobody berated Trex, dude. I linked to the whole discussion in one of my journal entries, and you can read it there. If that is what you would call berating, then I would have to ask just how delicately you would have liked me to approach the subject? The kid was being a petty little brat, and needed someone to let him know that his behavior wasn't acceptable. Your real friends won't always tell you what you want to hear, and the fact of the matter is that the people on that forum expected me to metaphorically stroke his hair and tell him that whatever he felt was right was right, because he has social anxiety. After he started cussing, that would have been an excellent opportunity for the forum staff to come in and... you know... moderate, and it could have been a great learning experience for him. Saying something along the lines of, "I don't think that Macgobhain meant to imply that you like having social anxiety, or that you are faking your condition. He's just saying that calling the cops is over the top, and I'm inclined to agree. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, perhaps, like he said, your grandpa or maybe your mom could try figuring out who the parents are?" That didn't happen though. Instead, the staff, as they always have, fed into the crap, and berated me for daring to tell Trex that at some point, he is going to have to take responsibility for himself. 


And yes, fine, people with social anxiety aren't necessarily being rational, like people who are suicidal. But you know what is a very effective tactic of dealing with suicidal people? Appealing to their rational minds. I've done it. Talking a random ass man out of killing himself on a golf course was actually one of the decisive events that led up to me meeting my husband. Catering to a mentally unstable person's irrational behavior usually just fosters more irrational behavior. 


If you don't understand physiological differences between men and women and how these differences play a role in military efficiency, then I would direct you to read about sexual dimorphism in humans. At the very least, I would think that the existence of menstrual cycles would cause you to think more about the subject. And while I would love to live in a reality where it is unfair to judge the feminist movement by the actions of "extremists", I actually judge the movement by the actions of your average, self-identifying feminists, and the prominent figures in the movement who have been influential in shaping legislation in countries where feminism is popular. Your average, self-identifying feminist, as such spends the majority if not all of her discussions regarding gender issues talking about women's issues exclusively. They are normally completely unaware or unconcerned with sexual violence against men, domestic violence against men, how legislation and sentencing with regards to both of these subjects affect men, and usually engage in logically fallacious arguments like citing the wage gap as an example of institutionalized sexism, and will also cite the lack of female CEOs as an example of such as well. I could go on, but feminism, from its inception, is not a movement concerned with equality. It is and always has been a movement that concerns itself with female privilege. And the insatiable need to defend the feminist movement displayed by vast swathes of the population only speaks to this fact - because the movement is perceived as being primarily composed of women. There is actually a school of thought in which people consider male and female issues simultaneously, or consider how a certain social attitude might affect both genders as well - it's not called feminism, it's called egalitarianism.


And alternatehistory.com functions in very much the same way as the Speco Evo forum - it is a Leftist echo chamber. The difference I would say, is that the administration, though extremely politically and philosophically biased, does not normally feed into berating and personally attacking members the way the administration of the Spec Evo forum does. They tend to quell voices of dissent pretty quickly, depending on the subject, but they don't go on character assassination campaigns.

Well I’m an egalitarian myself to be honest, since well, identification as male feminists hasn’t been so good this past couple of years after so many of them turned out to be creeps mascerading as allies like Matt Hickey. Some of the guys there are people I don’t necessarily agree with on topics, but we’ve learned to tolerate each other. Those less tolerable members like Carlos are long gone now (as the shitshow on Carlos’ twitter and Kiwifarms articles shows).
