Haha! Yes, I've just put it into my gallery.
Whatever the program I use, I always end up on Inkscape.

I seriously scratched my head for a minute or two, trying to figure out why you would post that link. It took that long to recognise that I was looking at a close copy of my avatar My brain hasn't been working well lately.

Hey I need help with Inkscape, can you help me?
I am unable to import .ai vectors. I use the import function from the file menu and it says: Failed to load the requested file.
Can you please help?

Kewl, thanks For me, the decision to use Inkscape wasn't even to do with being free or open source--I had a license for Illustrator at the time. I just found Inkscape easier to use.

Yes, I can understand what you are getting at. In fact, I have tried Inkscape many times before getting to Illustrator.
Maybe this was because the 'look' of Inkscape made me feel that it would have many less features and be more difficult to use. It is true that you cannot see the various objects within a layer and there is nothing fancy like gradient mesh (not to mention the interface which still has a long way to go).
But as they say, quality cannot be hidden, and I have gotten back to inkscape after having spent a month on Illustrator. Today, within a few hours, I am almost in ninth heaven after realising that I can make beautiful vectors much faster in Inkscape than in AI. I hope the Inkscape project keeps on improving and the guys behind it do not give up at any point of time. I suppose you are the admin of the Inkscape (unofficial) forum. I will be putting up my vectors there after doing so in DA.
Take care

I missed some of Illustrators more powerful features for a short whilst, until I realised that they were really just a distraction. Yes, I could create something more perfect with a gradient mesh, or I could use simple gradients in a clever to way to make something more interesting.

Well, soemtimes I wonder why not just take a photography if I am going for perfect realism! But that's everyone's taste I suppose. For the moment, just for the challenge of it, I am making a realistic image of a lotus purely through the gradients of Inkscape on Linux. Hopefully it won't look 'too' real while still having a style of its own, as you mentioned.
Glad there are such great freewares around! Take care.
