Oh, cool; I'll admit, I've only seen the first episode of The Flash, though I did like what I saw ^_^ And it's great to hear that you've been doing great too

As for me... Well, I've drawn and posted some more drawings recently, stopped my Photo 365, and started Weekly Journals and a Weekly Vlog for them on my phone too, as well as a Q+A video series I'm releasing bit by bit. I've also been looking into improving my art more and reading, and getting support too. And job searching. Yeah.

Thanks for asking

That's great that you are drawing more and being more active online. Having vlogs, Q&A and Journals are a great way to gain following and meet other artists.  It's great that you are improving more and more. How goes the job search? What type of job are you looking into? I am also on the job hunt. I have some part-time freelance work coming up, but I would love to find some stable full time work ^.^;;

MakenMeister In reply to midnightc10 [2015-05-24 19:21:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you ^_^ It's taking a while, but patience is a virtue when it comes to art

I'm currently looking for work as a local Junior Graphic Designer whilst exploring and improving my drawing skills and exploring things asides from that, like the above and with requests and a recent collab. What I'd like to do is a comic book story eventually in the meantime

So far I've had an e-mail where I filled in and sent off an application form for a job that didn't call or mail me back afterwards, and then I got a phone call about a job interview to be arranged the next day with an e-mail with further details about the job, none of which happened unfortunately   So no luck so far with any jobs  Although I did come across a group that could help me out with my autism through it, and I'm keeping myself busy too

Ooh, that's cool, good luck with the freelance work then  And I'm sure you'll be able to find a good full-time job eventually too, and I'm glad to meet someone else here in the same boat as me, so to speak If you don't mind me asking, what sort of freelance work do you do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightc10 In reply to MakenMeister [2015-05-24 21:57:58 +0000 UTC]

Good luck with finding work, I am sure you will find something eventually. Sometimes it comes down to luck and timing. So as long as you keep at it you will be employed soon. I would love to see you make a comic I have been wanting to start a comic too, but I have been hesitating on starting it. ^.^;;

I know the feeling of people not responding back. I have been waiting to hear back on a job I interviewed with at the end of April. They say I am still in the running, but its not a good sign when they aren't in a rush to fill the position. Makes me think they don't need a designer all that badly. Don't get discouraged if you don't hear back, I haven't heard back from a lot of places. That is good that you were able to find a place to help you out with your Autism. Does your town have a VESID type program(that might only be a NY thing). The program helps people with learning disabilities find work and gives resources. Unfortunately, when I went they didn't help me too much, but I had friends who have had good experiences with them. They even payed for a driving course for my friend so that she could start working.

Thanks for wishing me good luck. I used to work as a freelance product designer, where I would draw specs for making giftware. Since that job ended, I am starting on a new job with a friend of a friend who is going to be starting her own business. She is going to have me help her create some labels and packaging.

Thank you for wishing me luck on finding work And I'm currently working out a few comic ideas whilst planning on reading some too, like a writer would read books. And I'd say if you can give the time to give making your comic a try too; just start small and work from there

Yeah, that's very true; it sucks when you don't hear back from anyone But it's good to know I'm not alone in this, if I haven't said this already Wish it was a bit like the Sims where you get a job right off the bat

Hmm, I haven't heard of VESID before, but it sounds a bit similar to MAIN that's helping me out with my autism and Northen Lights which offer courses on confidence and such which ended up being really informative over here They sound really helpful though too when you need them If you don't mind me asking, are you autistic too?

And you're very much welcome Huh, now that sounds really interesting, and that's awesome being able to help your friend of a friend with those skills too; I wish you both the best of luck with it!

(And sorry about the really late reply )

You're welcome! That's really cool. If you need any comic recommendations, I think Saga is amazing. Good inspiration for comic making. There is also a really good book called brick by brick that talks about artists and sustainable creativity. You can read some of those comics free online doodlealley.com/2011/08/27/pri…
process/

Yea, you are definitely not alone in that. If you ever feel frustrated on the job search, feel free to message me. Us artists have to stick together.

Yea, they seems very similar. Although, those sites look like they may help more than VESID does. May I ask, are you from the UK? If so, it looks like the UK puts more effort in helping people find work. The VESID site looks embarrassing compared to how those sites look lol. No, I am not autistic. I was in special education through out school because I have a learning disability. Mostly in the area of math. It's great that you have Northern Lights and MAIN to assist.

It has been really interesting so far. I get to work on a lot of fun designs.

(No worries about late reply, I have only been going on DA intermediately. I have keeping up more on Instagram as of late)

Hmm, thank you for recommending Saga to me; sounds interesting and I'll be sure to check it out when I can. I'm currently getting back into reading a bit more recently And I've looked at the comics on Doodle Ally and they're really useful, and I loved the downloadable comic you can get there as well, made me think. Thanks for recommending that too

Yeah, that's very true; I'll be sure to message you about it when I need to, and feel free to do the same too

Yeah it's fine to ask; I'm from the UK, the North East to England to be exact I'm grateful to have found these organizations here, although since I've been moved to a new work programme I can no longer attend courses at Northern Rights XC I also wish they were a bit more well known too, but what can one do about the past? At least the new programme may be similar, though

Ah right, thanks for letting me know. It seems like you've handled it well since then.

That sounds really cool; glad to hear that it's interesting and going well too

(Ah right, no problem. Seems like a lot of people use Instagram recently )

You're welcome! I am glad you liked my suggestions.

Will do! Thank you.

Thats cool that you are from England. I was able to stay in Canterbury for 3 months for study abroad in school, it's a wonderful place. Its goof that you were able to have a new program.

Yea, Instagram has been easier with more followers. Do you have an art Instagram?

MakenMeister In reply to midnightc10 [2015-07-12 22:06:26 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome.

Oh? That's very interesting, and thanks Canterbury's really far away from where I live, though, but I'll take your word on it's wonderfulness. It's near London, and I really love London in the two times I've been there, so huge and yet full of detail. If you don't mind me asking, what did you study in Canterbury?

Oh, and yeah it is, just taking a long time between appointments at the moment though .-. Better then nothing at least, and it could get better overtime.

I see, well I don't actually have an art Instagram myself, never really thought to have one for art, yet I did think to have one to follow a friend here who also uses it, and maybe you too. Hmm... Might just give it a go. How is it easier, asides from having more followers, to use then here? (Asides from the mobile site as well here. Ugh.)

midnightc10 In reply to MakenMeister [2015-08-06 01:04:44 +0000 UTC]

I enjoyed London too, its a beautiful city. Although I wanted to study animation, the courses didn't match up in my schedule. So I studied Visual Communication/Graphic design in Canterbury. Unfortunately, a lot of mess ups happened while trying to transfer my curriculum over. I was too experienced to be in any of the graphics courses they had to offer. I also didn't know that a graphic design course that would be one class at my home school was two classes at Canterbury. 1 class lecture and the second as practical. It was strange to compare the two teaching styles. I also had to take two mandatory classes, one comparing the U.S. & England and another course.

Instagram is very easy. Unfortunately you can only upload from a mobile phone so sometimes I have to send drawings to my phone to upload. I think it is nice to share art on there because its not only artists that notice my work so it hits a wider audience. Plus, it only takes a few minutes to upload. DeviantArt definitely takes more time to maintain.

MakenMeister In reply to midnightc10 [2015-08-23 19:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see; yeah the courses are divided up like that, though I thought it was the same lecture/ practical type of classes everywhere .-. At least it got sorted in the end. Thanks for letting me know I'm guessing that you've been able to handle it despite how odd it was?

Ah I see; I always thought Instagram was both a web and phone-based site, though. I can easily see how it can work that way though; scan it in, upload it to OneDrive and then maybe upload it to Instagram from there through the share option on the phone. Hmm... And yeah DA takes a lot longer and ain't phone based. For everyone at least .-. Thanks But would you say Instagram was better than Pinterest? That's another one I've been pinterested in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightc10 In reply to MakenMeister [2015-09-11 14:44:18 +0000 UTC]

Luckily, everything ended up working out despite how odd everything was. The only thing I was disappointed in was that I missed out on the animation practical class. I really wanted to learn animation there because my school does not offer it. Crazy enough, my friend pointed out that today five years ago was when I when we flew to England to start our study abroad.

Yea, you can look at Instagram from your web browser but cannot upload anything. It's a strange set up. I really think Deviantart would have a better place in the artist community if it had a better phone app. The one they have now doesn't really cut it. A lot of glitches and not user friendly. I would say that Instagram is better for art than Pinterest because it is harder to get people to reblog your images. Meaning a lot more people will see it on Instagram. If you have great craft tutorials or photography Pinterest would be the place to be. I am on both but I do not post drawings on my Pinterest. Other people have posted my drawings though with credit to me. I thought that was cool. Pinterested in, haha I see what you did there

MakenMeister In reply to midnightc10 [2015-09-16 12:33:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh cool about it being the day you wrote this being five years since you went abroad to study Though not getting to animate like you wanted to sucks it sounds like. Were you able to do it later though? I used to be interested in animation too, and I was gonna study it but then decided Graphic Design would be the better choice.

Oh right, that does sound odd but if it was originally just meant to be for photos from your phone, then it would make sense in that respect. It seems as though the people behind Instagram know what it is and can adapt to keep to that.

Oh right, so it wasn't just that the app lacked notifications then. Thank goodness I couldn't get it, and you're right. It's also a little embarrassing when you have Deviants here who know how to code and could have been commissioned to help with DA's app.

Oh right, thank you for letting me know And yeah, Pinterest has this thing were you can pin anything but it sounds complicated trying to get all the link and details right in each pin (from what I've read) though it's good to know that I can consider putting photos on there if I wanted to

I think I'll give Instagram a go then, see what it's like Thanks very much

And yeah, thanks I can't resist a good pun and I've wanted to say that to someone :3
