I am sure you have seen the 1922 movie, "Haxan", a silent film made in Sweden. 1922, and so, so dark...I wouldn't have thought such amazing hellish fantasy would have been depicted on film in that era. Darker than anything made today, that's for sure.
I would love to have it on DVD, but I have seen long pieces of in on youtube. If you haven't seen it, I wanted to mention it. I know you'd enjoy it.
