Aye, I imagine most authors haven't thought about it either. We tend to be fully focused on the power of our words and making them perfect to be thinking about visual ways of enticing readers into our stories. That's part of the whole reason why I wrote The Authors Guide To Drawing Maps.
I'm doing fabs thanks. Just in the process of putting together a "how2" guide for learning exactly how to create a stunning map. I have posted up a finished version of the style here [link] so you maybe interested in favouring that map too. The articles will be going up on The World Building School from this Friday.
