Hi, about 6DD, I did it in response to a rude rejection and ban (unprovoked) by ~meursaultx . I will pay attention to all member of the group and I am looking and learning new ways of getting people noticed.
One question though, how do I feature actual artwork in news? I tried it with the current featured and favourites in 6DD but the images didn't show (just links)?
My deviations will be removed once the galleries fill up with new deviations.
I would really appreciate your help.

Well, as you'll see from my news list I made HTU very popular myself. Groups can't submit news, so I took it upon myself to do it until I didn't have the time anymore, at which point Ginger took over. Point taken about your works - it would look empty without it for now.
DA7 has really messed quite a lot up! I'm not sure how anything works anymore!
I'm still considering offering my services to help. But right now I'm up to my eyeballs in work. I see you are interested in Architecture. My uni project (I do Civil Engineering) right now involves detail designing a 40 storey building. I'm starting to really hate CAD! But my free time is pretty much booked until I finish
So until I finish that, I'm only on DA speradically. But I'll be happy to help your group admin and red tape stuff out when I'm done. Approach me in July!

Lol, ok. I've never used CAD. I only use Sketchup. In university, what is the course called that you are taking because I hope to got to college and then uni. The lecturer told me which course I should go for but I've forgotten what exactly it was.

I'm not doing architecture. Im doing Civil Engineering. We are the people who have to work with architects, keep them in line, and make sure the building stands up. Architects study very little structural analysis, amongst other forms. Also, you don't really need an architect for a variety of buildings (like coastal defenses, very very tall buildings, sewage and water treatment plants etc etc). I've spent three years just doing maths basically, and applying it to the real world. Next year I'm specialising.
If you want to do architecture - you go for it! You just need a very detailed art portfolio (i.e. hand sketches etc) and you will find yourself doing it quite quickly! You might have been suggested to take an art foundation (at a College) - that's a brilliant way to get your foot in the door with architecture

Thanks for your advice. Good luck with your Civil Engineering. I've always wondered who kept designs practical and tidy.

Everything is possible as long as the client is wooed enough, and you don't bankrupt them lol. But as an architect-to-be, you need to think about 3 things:
1) Natural lighting in the building (learn some astronomy)
2) Aesthetic shapes (learn some art)
3) Challenging your Civil Engineer (we are hired to cut costs. Aslong as you can justify something, they can't tell you otherwise)
Have you had a good look at natural lighting within your buildings? It's very important to cut energy usage of a building. It also makes people happier! just remember, 23.45 degrees

I try to have as many windows as possible without screwing up the look of the building. 2 of my designs use large feature windows on the north and south faces allowing sunlight from any direction to get into the house. I am considering velux skylights as well. I try to make my designs enviro-friendly.
when you say 23.45 degrees, do you mean room temp?

omenofthedeep In reply to duckling1992 [2010-05-30 17:59:04 +0000 UTC]
23.45 degrees = oftilt of earths axis. You need it to calculate the levels at which the sun rises over the period of a year (in the South if you are in the Northern Hemisphere). The sun doesn't shine in the north! The aim is to allow ambient light in, but not direct sunlight. Direct sunlight causes glare which can, in the case of office workers, be distracting.
There is a report you should read, called the BREEAM report (don't be put off by the 150 odd pages) - it's got some really important messages to engineers and architects. It includes a series of problems and solutions to sustainability issues in design and use of buildings. Be careful not to mix up sustainability and enviro-friendly things! They aren't the same!

WOW, You have been really helpful. Here's my msn address: rhys.dewar.stewart@live.co.uk so we can talk about this kinda stuff on other occasions. You really know what your talking about and have so much knowledge which is something I obviously lack.
What part of the UK are you from as well, just out of interest?
