# About me

My name is Tamra Matteson. I am 32 years old and hold a B.A. in Studio Art. I also ended my college career with minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have been fond of many "geeky" things throughout my life (beyond math and computers ^_~) to include Japanese anime, sci-fi/fantasy literature and movies, video games (I'm more of a watcher but do play some random things like Dragon's Age, Skyrim, Fable, etc.), and loved being in my high school and college band (yay band music!). Art has always been a great love of mine and it's rare to find my hands idle because I'm usually working on a new project or two, doodling, or researching for new projects!

I think your work is really beautiful. Your females all have a resounding sense of strength about them and I really like arabic calligraphy I'd like to try it, but I'm afraid my handwriting is rather bismal in the script because I make it very boxy and not very flowing... just gotta keep practicing!

Thank you very much for the compliments--it's very sweet of you! I'm sure if you practice flowing lines, your calligraphy will come along. It takes a long time but not as long as you'd think. Maybe you should start with the common Arabic calligraphic phrases and letters (You can find all of this on a Google search) and copy them as best as you can and once you feel comfortable with the results you can move on to original work.

I studied Arabic for a few years through the US Army, so I've got a good handle on the language... it's just my handwriting isn't very pretty

Well, if you've studied arabic for a few years, you're ahead of most people. Try copying common words or phrases--if it doesn't flow well with a calligraphy pen, then try drawing them as big, graceful shapes instead of looking at them like letters. I've done both in the past, and each has its own advantages and pitfalls, but drawing the letters as shapes can be a lot more fun. I'm sure you'll progress if you practice. Good luck!
