Your welcome! Actually, I favorited your work because I too hold a fascination with crafting, especially metal work, but I'll admit that I have no real talent, education/experience wth it(the extent of what i laughingly call "work" is just grinding down random pieces of steal into crude knives). I'm currently a freshman at the University of Alabama pursuing a degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering to further educate myself in this field, yet from what little i've gathered here it seems that if I want to actually forge anything on my own without using labs or million dollar equipment, i'll need to strike out on my own. I'd hate to impose on you, but do you have any advice as to how I can improve on my skills (any books, certain people i might seek, locations of hundred year old master smiths to learn from a-la Highlander)? Any help would be appreciated, and again, I just want to say that I love your work.

*googles: Metallurgical* nice, sounds like a lot of theory... I did just simple metalworks, (not sure how to name it in engels...)with 1 day of school in the week. so I learn all my things from skilled metalworkers (that is welding and such) at thursdays I go to a forging museum, which sounds fancy, but its more of rebuild 100 year old shack, but my master teaches the beautifull art of forging ^^. I have a few books which describe some basic technics, but mostly its just trying stuff... uhm... for example, the forged flower was a alternative for the usual weapon making. I started forging and just let the skill flow (sow to speak) and just tried something... which worked out quite fine. so when it comes to learning (yes, this whole story had a purpouse)I feel really privileged to have a master. the best way is to just try an idea, and see were it leads to!
I olso got a book from my schoolteacher called "the modern blacksmith" by Alaxander G. Weygers, which is in english and has got good pictures and descriptions for the basic technigues. If you could get one through E-bay or something, I would recommend it!

Wow thanks! for a while now i've been looking for a good fan art site to browse, and all of my searches kept leading me to deviantart. Now usually I don't like to set up accounts for sites i'll just browse, but I decided to cave in and set this one up, and let me say that it was worth it! barely a few days in and i've already spent a good 30-40 hours just browsing through what i can only describe as a nirvana of pure artistic talent spanning across several mediums. Seriously, I haven't been this excited with a free web membership since I set up my first runescape account back in the 6th grade (which I still have, by the way. Yes, I'm a nerd, but I get the feeling that that is the norm around here ) Add that with the extremely friendly atmosphere and I think I just found a new reason to procrastinate on my Homework.

no problem. i wish i could see the conversation that happened afterwards, but seeing as the game could only show this malfunction in a glitch, those words will sadly remain lost to us
