hey, man. i am glad that you agreed. i will try to keep it as short as possible. it is just an idea that has been floating around my head for a couple of years. i believe that my drawing abilities would not do it justice and i would end up maiming the original premise. i have seen a lot of your drawings and think that your style and approach would be far better. so here it goes (deep breath).
i went to las vegas a couple of years ago. it is a bizarre place, to say the least. what you see in the movies is somewhat accurate. there is an element of glamor and kitsch. the biggest casinos surround the main street and are opulent, bombastic, etc... however, the the buildings and wealth begin to decrease dramatically once you start to retreat from the main street. the casinos become little, beaten down; similarly, prostitutes and thieves start to appear and it seems a completely different reality form the main street.
at that point, i began to form an analogy from the animal kingdom. you may have seen these documentaries about the dry savanna, when the only water is a feeble stream in the middle of a dried up earth. when this happens, all the animals go down to the stream and try to get some nourishment. obviously, the stronger predators get the first turn, while the weak and less evolved mammals stagger behind, waiting humbly for their turn.
i believed that this was the basic image of las vegas. the biggest, most powerful casinos are the first ones to feed from this river of dollars (main street), while the ugly and small ones are left behind, malnourished. it was then that i decided that it would be interesting to draw these animal-building-casinos ruling las vegas.
i was hoping that you would be interested in drawing something like that. if you think the idea needs some tuning or modification, please don't hesitate in changing it any way you like.
