Hi, I totally lost the account info on both rocketjockey & grincer. So I made this new account.
If you are interested in Rocket Jockey: everything about it is now in ONE place online at the Facebook Group. The remake from Solar Ray stopped. Still trying hard to get a small developer to do a remake. Maybe with combined efforst from a fanbase @ ...

Please join and enjoy the game!
Kind regards,

Since there is a beta version of Rocket Arena (the best RJ remake project so far!) I thought I post the link here again: [link] by X-ray.
I'll try to remember the password for this user RocketJockey. So I can add more promotion here.

Great to see that someone is still working on a remake! Will it be a standalone game, or is it an add-on for an existing game?

I have chatted with the person monitoring the Unreal Mod project, heard it's cancelled. Too bad, but the just doesn't seem to be a fanbase large enough (with the needed expertise).

Since this is just a site for gathering the right people, I think I should let you know where the action is. This seems like a really promising effort of different experts:
Please help these people WIKI Unreal MOD Rocket Jockey: [link]
It it time to combine all efforts to one project

As I was adding some Java games to my SE k750i, I began to wonder. Would it be possible to make a JAVA version of the game? Maybe at first without AI, just a multiplayer game (infared / bluetooth)?
It's a pity I'm no programmer, but to pool efforts maybe Sourceforge can be used? Any suggestions?

Does anyone have the patch? The site posted is down and googling like crazy left me dry. I emailed the guy too, but he hasn't replied. I crave the rock.

Hey! I would love to take part in this! I first played rocket jockey when my friend bought it and i have loved it ever since. I have some experience in photoshop and one of my specialitys is music. I aint' "King of the surf guitar" but i could make some pretty decent music for the game if needed.

Hey guys, just found this. I'm one of the other parties that was interested in remaking Rocket Jockey ([link] ) but unfortunately it's not something I'm any longer interested in. Sorry I didn't notice the posts made on my workblog before, I wasn't trying to be rude or ignore them.
With the small fanbase that RJ has, I would recomment pooling your efforts in the direction of the guys over at [link] and making it an Unreal mod, but that's just my opinion. I'm sure making a UT mod is no walk in the park, but making the game on your own is quite a beast.
Regardless of what you guys choose, good luck to you and I hope you pull this off.
Oh, and there IS a patch that someone put together to make this a quick and easy install on Win2k/XP machines. You can all email cubanraul@hotmail.com and thank him for the wonderful patch available at: [link]
Happy Rocketing and happier Jockeying guys.

Google these words "rocket jockey programmers"
you will find at least 3 groups (including this one) that are/were working on remakes.
If efforts could be pooled...

I don't know if the first message I attempted to post made it through. So if it did, forgive the double post, this is a test.
I may have to repost the info once I know.

Hey everyone. Wow. I was totally shocked to find somewhat of a 'hardcore following' of rocket jockey online. I stil remember play this game on my first computer (a pentium 166) and then on my P3 500 MHz win 98 machine. I was very saddened to find it wouldn;t work on XP whatsoever (although I'll have to try some of the proposed 'fixes' for that).
It's funny that you guys are discussing a remake, as for the last roughly year I have been thinking I've LOVE to make say an XBOX port, with updated everything (obviously).
Not that a PC remake wouldn't be awesome, and that would probably be easier anyways...
As for me... I'm currently taking multimedia design at Durham College in Ontario Canada, and I have studied the following (not all in college) which might prove useful: 3D animation/modeling, C++, java and javascript programming, photoshop/illustrator, flash/dreamweaver/director, and ALOT of audio work. I record, edit, mix and arrange music, I can also program midis with up to 18 tracks. I have a capture card in my computer (I've very much wanted to capture some RJ footage to promote it and see if I could get some people with game developing skills interested in working on it)
I have never worked on a video game (I have worked on an RPG but I no longer care much for RPGs) but this is the one game I would LOVE to be part of, and I'd really like to see it done right. True to the original, but updated. I almost think it would be great to just keep the game's engine for the most part and just bring it to the HD era (and lose the 8 bit graphics, as much as I loved them
Maybe the best idea would be to decide what needs to be done first, and then figure out who will work on it and where it will come from. I have seen other groups work on games or remakes (halo: first strike mod comes to mind) where the team started out enthusiastic and full of spark, but after several months with little to no progress, the whole project basically went idle and none of the people who had worked on it were around to question why anymore.
I know a couple of people who MIGHT be able to help out, but first I have to show them the wonder that is rocket jocket.

Any news here from programmers?
Here is an interesting link to someone who went a bit solo on a Rocket Jockey remake:
[link]
Maybe if communication can be set up, between him and programmers here. There could be a joint effort??

We can't start from scratch, as I see it now (would need a lot more people to pull that off).
So it has to be a MOD. Since I don't have any skills to make one, I'll have to sit back and wait. I hope the people with the skills to make a MOD can work together on this. It is now in your hands, please keep me posted on the developments.
greets,
Grincer

- Well the worst with the current RJ game I think is, the delay there is between pressing a button on my keyboard and the reaction in the game.
- Multiplayer also shows a lot of room for improvement.

i am a game designer who has worked with Sean Callahan (programmer of Rocket Jockey) just as Rocket Science was folding. Last I knew Sean left our fair world of games (for Satellite programming, IIRC) so he's probably not available to help in this endeavor (legal questions aside, ehem).
That said, if i can help in anyway, i'm RWA (ready, willing, able).

Hey I'm about to graduate Tulane University in New Orleans with a degree in CS and I never thought there were people that loved Rocket Jockey as much as I did. I'd love to work with you on a remake. Do you have an engine yet? You can email me at if76@hotmail.com. Make the subject "ROCKET JOCKEY" I get a lot of spam
