I wish where I lived had cemeteries like you go to!

Some of these are up to 9+ hrs drive from where I live. There are some that are relatively close that I have wanted to do, but have never been able to (no public access allowed).

Why would a cemetery be closed to the public? I know there are abandoned ones people have gotten to. Have you been to Green Wood?

There is a very nice one in Philly that is locked up tighter than Ft Knox and they will prosecute anyone who trespasses to get in it, and I need a clean record for the line of work I have been in otherwise I would try jumping the fence (I know people who have).
Why is it locked up? Its been abandoned for decades so its a complete mess. A guy who lives out of state bought it as an investment, quickly learned it was a money pit that will never turn a profit, so he doesn't know what to do with it so it sits in limbo. He has a hired groundskeeper whose job is to keep people out, and in rare approved cases, walk someone in to visit family (by appointment) & makesure they don't try to go anywhere else in the cemetery. To get an appointment I think you have to pay a fee, you have to know the names & plot#s of who you're trying to get to, and it can only be done certain times during the week. Basically makes it impossible to legally get in.
From his perspective, I can kinda understand why he'd be afraid of people getting hurt and suing him for it. But letting it just sit and rot isn't better either.

You ma'am have the most beautiful gallery I have ever seen.
Thank you for posting so many hearses, I don't get too many hearse/cemetary lovers that I can see their gorgeous galleries.
I got to get the pleasure of seeing all the historic beautiful cemeteries back east in 2001 in Massachusetts.

You have quite a collection of photos from many different cemeteries. Β I canβt say which one(s) are my favouritesβ¦ Β there are too many. Β However, from the cemeteries you have visited, which are you top 3 for photography?

For photography? Laurel Hill in Philly & Oakwood in Syracuse. Can't think of what would be #3 off hand.

I make miniatures, and your photos are such great reference for painting and weathering old stone carvings and walls.
Great work!

Oh My Gosh!! I absolutely LOVE your stuff! If I could fave them all I would!
It is so awesome to find another cemetery lover out there. My Mother and I absolutely adore cemeteries but as we live in Wisconsin we don't come across many others like ourselves very often out here. Sorry for gushing so much. Just got a little excited for a moment

Thanks, some of these aren't terribly recent it just takes me a while to get around to uploading them all. Especially after days where I shot a few hundred at one place.
Don't think I even put a dent in the amount of mausoleums I've yet to look inside at West Laurel Hill. Seems like almost every one of them has some expensive stained glass in it.

Sarah - it's such a lovely hobby to take photos in the cemetary, so peaceful and beautiful - as I look at many cemetary photos on dA these last couple of days, I am eager to bring a camera to my local cemetary - nice photos - Judy

i must say that your graveyard shots are simply beutiful and huanting, i think you are a very good person for letting the memory of the long gone to live onward, even after their mortalplain connection no longer do.

Thanx 4 fav Sarah. It wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to deduce that you are a fan of cemeteries. Me too. Some people find that weird or even ghoulish, but I think they are beautifully calm, tranquil places, and best of all the residents don't give you any hassle (normally). If you are ever in London be sure to visit Highgate, it is a wonderful space.
