Thank YOU for making awesome art! I absolutely love the style you used for "Original Characters" (I plan to comment on it when I have the time to do it justice). It's inspired me to try and master it myself. Hope to see more work like that from you!

Glad to see you enjoyed that drawing/painting hybrid style. If you're interested in furthering your understanding on the style, Tokiame is the name of the artist I draw my inspiration from. However, unless you understand Japanese you'll only find pretty colored pictures on his personal site. I personally learn much, much more from observing his black and white pictures. Also, you might want to look at some Korean comics as their drawing style is somewhat similar.

Unfortunately while I am working on learning Japanese I probably won't be able to understand much, but thanks for the reference! By the way, I checked out your journal post and it says you don't/will never charge for requests? Does that mean you don't do commissions? Just curious.

In other words, I do commissions of all kinds for free. I understand that some artists make a living this way, but I personally don't believe in charging for my works. I make some of my works available as prints just in case people want to show their gratitude in some other way, but again, those funds go straight into a paid account rather than my own pocket. HOWEVER, and this is a big point, I am currently unable to commit to requests of any kind due to the time my intense animation training program requires me to put in. So for the next few months I won't be taking requests of any kind so I can focus on what is truly important.

That's awesome, and I totally understand about focusing on what's important. Although (and you don't have to answer), does this mean that while you don't believe in charging for your work you -are- seeking to get a career in animation? Do you (did you, rather) do requests for experience or just for the sake of art? If it's either of those, I can understand how taking commissions might limit the amount of requests as people tend to get scared off by the need to pay. At any rate, good luck with your training program!

Actually, my future career as an animator has little to nothing to do with deviantART. Not to be insulting, but the people around me who I have worked alongside are far better judges to help me out with my animations on a technical level than anyone else. However, that is not to say that I don't appreciate the reactions people may have to animations I have posted on this site.
My drawings, on the other hand, are produced in my free time at zero cost. I already explained why I make some of my work available as prints, but I also avoid using the word "commission" because far too many people associate that word with "paying for art". Money often scares people off and that's the last thing I would want. I take on "requests" because I love art and because I believe that any experience can be a worthwhile experience.

Hehe thanks. I was going to Westwood College Online and trying to get a Game Art and Design degree, but had to quit due to financial reasons. Then I started attending a local community college and was planning to transfer to a university to get into their New Media Arts program for animation, but now my family's moving... soooooo... I'm not in a school for animation anymore, but I still plan to practice it on the side when I can.
