It's on the Mediterranean sea and there's these really high cliffs that look absolutely gorgeous. I've never been there, but I intend to study abroad there the year after this one.

My school has a painting program that goes there for a month, and basically just has you paint for five hours every day-- anything you want. Then they do field trips to pompeii, etc...but whatevs. I have other things to solve right now.

According to the teacher I had today, my work "has no heart" in it right now. She's right of course, I've had that problem since I came to art school, but it was sort of harsh to hear and I really tire of how teachers tell me these things, and have so far been instrumental only in keeping me from figuring anything out about it. I hope she's different.


Erasmus, you say? I'm curious. ...hm.

with the erasmus program you go abroad for a semester, i believe. but one month in italy sounds amazing! i hope they take you to llago di garda. i visited quite a few cities in italy this summer so if you have any questions, holler i could also upload some images from the trip on flickr if yo need referenceson or to see which place is worth going to.

art schools suck all the inspiration right out of you, dont they? i had the exact same problem--as soon as i started my foundation year i just lost all my abilities and right now i'm recovering because my current course is 50% theory and 50% creative. perhaps you could try something like that?

Thanks! I'll be sure to ask you questions when I go. Erasmus sounds pretty cool... definitely not what I'm doing though. I need a shorter program.

Art schools...well. They are annoying at times. Like...really, super annoying at times, in the sense that they suck the inspiration out. I'm glad to hear you're recovering..I can't tell if I need to leave or not right now to continue growing. I'm sticking it out for at least one more semester.

That course sounds interesting-- 100% creative can be pretty draining. I'm trying to invent my own theory portion to compensate in the meantime.

it helps to spend lots of time in the library and read books. that way you'll have a good theoretical background for your art and it'll help you improve and at the same time you'll get a break from the practical stuff. maybe try to read books on other subjects, that will definitely help you air out i hope you'll find a balance and that art school doesn't make you hate art in the end.

I go back and forth with the art hate-- it's like..I can't stop myself from obsessing over it even when I'm all cynical toward the very purpose of art. But I bet that would help a lot. I'm trying to get to the point where I can do that a little better. I do love reading. A lot.
