The first generations were rather offensive, portraying stereotypes of genders with reckless abandon. Plus the animation was bad. I say bronies are not obliged to stand by or defend them, as the new generation was created to go beyond the poor quality of previous generations. The only generation I don't hate other than gen4 is gen 1, because it had a Minotaur who abducted ponies to be slaves, Lord Smooze, and Firefly, an inspiration to girls who wanted do do something other than make food and look pretty.

"Do you even lift?" is an arbitrary challenge, used first in (oddly popular) bodybuilding forums.

"Both shows are the same concept" You really haven't seen Generation 3 OR 4 have you. Lauren Faust HATED Gen 2 and 3 which is why she wanted the newest edition to be a complete redo of the franchise. [link]

I have a hunch that anyone who would, as a generalisation, call unicorns "horned beasts of suck" would then think of ponies as just "unhorned beasts of suck". He seemed pretty strongly against the whole category of girly, fictional horse-like creatures.

Also I would like to point out that Hank and John Green are different people. It was Hank Green who wrote the song. We can argue about Hank Green's opinions later, but I would say that John Green at least is safely on our side.
