I'm thinking both. Like Jake was Rich's boyfriend on Altea or some such and is the hologram thing and then the Shay-placement is very much like Jake and he joins the group as like a coran #2. But yeah I enjoy the shayllura idea more
as for trans-jared I just thought for the pidge being a girl thing, so i thought it'd be cool and add a bit more spunk to the storyline

I think shayllura is definitely the way to go here (personally I'm not a huge fan of "oh this person looks/acts like a dead boyfriend/girlfriend of mine so I'll just date them and it'll be like nothing's wrong" trope so I'm glad that's not the route you're going down)
ah, I can see where you're coming from on the trans jared thing there, but I would be careful about using transgender-ness just as a way to make more of a connection between two characters or just for "cool" factor. Β It's not a bad or offensive idea per se (at least not that I'm aware of) but it can be difficult to write that sort of thing in a respectful way if you're not personally a member of that group. Β (I have no idea if you are so I was just throwing that out there to be safe)
tbh I honestly hadn't considered making an equivalent reveal for Jared since my fic wasn't gonna extend past the first episode but hey you do you my dude
