Thanks for the fave. I was wondering if you were a dharma brother from your screen name. I was curious as to what tradition(s) you practice and where.

Greetings Chris.
You are correct in your assumption.
For three years I practiced in the Zen schools before being introduced to Vajrayana. From there my main practice has been within the Kagyu lineage, but have recieved teachings from masters of other lines as well (most notably, Nyingma). As Vajrayana effortlessly encompasses the latter Mahayana and pre-Mahayana schools, I am open and constantly greatful for teaching and inspiration from all schools and traditions.
As for the 'where'. Does 'everywhere' fit the bill?

Wow that's great. I found it funny that I started with a Zen group but got a weird vibe and left the teacher wasn't right. Then had somehwat of a bias toward Zen and found a Tibetan sangha (Gelupa) and after about 2 years found myself missing Zen ha ha. That's what got me to Zen Mountain Monastery. I used to train in martial arts that were very traditionally Japanese so I guess still having alot of that in me and knowing the culture and language more plays a part. I also love how ZMM incorporates art pratice into their training. I still sit with the Gelupa group too so I can totally understand where you are coming from with being open to ther traditions. I would love to sit with Theravadan groups too yet I find myself feeling that Zen pratice is where my heart is and what works best for me so it only seems to make sense to stay focused on that instead of doing a variety.

Yes. I wholly understand. Although it is beneficial to taste different schools and traditions, it is most beneficial if one has a firm grounding and practice within just one school or lineage, all the while. A 'home base' if you will. Somewhere to keep your feet rested on the ground lest we get caught up in the floating to and fro.
I recommend sitting with a Therevada group if the chance arises. I myself have found an infinite source of inspiration and guidance through the study of the Pali Canon, without which, in my humble opinion, Mahayana and its schools (such as Zen) are left in the dark. One needs the roots to have the tree, after all.
On the martial arts note...what styles are you familar with?

I concur. I was lucky enough to catch wind ofa teaching that Bhikkhu Bodhi gave in a little hotel office and after speaking with him I was so humbled as he mentioned so many sutras and nikayas tha I had never even heard of. As for martial arts, I trained in Sogobujutus. I think the best thing to do would be to give you the link as my cousin (who was my Sensei) explains it much better than I can. The link is [link]
