Description A work I did for a scholarship contest: "This is How I Frame my Future". I didn't make it into the finalists, but voting still going on if anyone is interested to view the works. Also, they'll be offering a scholarship contest for next year as well, for any students interested.

In the next couple months I'll be going to back to school to major in Forestry. So I'm very excited to see what it brings.

really high quality. Subtle textures, vibrant and challenging colours (I find greens and browns the hardest), flawless composition. I'm not sure if you tried to make it a fisheye lense view from above but the flat-on view of all the shapes defeated any perspective you tried to put in, if that makes sense.

Oi! Thank you again for your feedback. Quality is something I've really struggled to work with in the past, so I'm glad to have made improvements there.

I think I understand what you mean about the background, like I made some sort of contradiction with the perspective.
In my art program are some perspective guidelines and related assets. I'm not entirely familiar with the tools, but I think I'll take them into more careful consideration. Even if its just for basic proportion and layout.

It's awesome that you gave me feedback on this piece specifically, because its original intention was for a contest. Hopefully use this info to improve my chances in future contests. Also, I realize it takes time to look at an art piece, analyze it, and articulate thoughts. Just knowing that you put this much effort into looking at and talking about my artwork makes me really happy.

Yeah critiques make me happy too, but every critique I've ever gotten I've had to ask someone personally for. "Ask and you shall receive" as they say.

Your uneven perspective is pretty good if you're going for a quirky super-stylized art piece (I've deliberately broken my perspective a few times to achieve different results), but if you want to make it look like a fleshed-out believable environment then here's what I recommend:
1. It's good that the arms are bigger than the legs since they're higher and closer, but at the same time the boot lines, leg lines, and the jean texture are flat-on. The boots should've been drawn as if you were looking down on them, the leg lines needed to taper down (foreshortening), and the jean texture lines needed to curve and conform to the legs. All hard stuff to do well, but finding reference pictures will help you understand what to draw.

2. If that line on the ground is meant to be the horizon line then it's too low. Typically the horizon line is at the eye level of the viewer, so in this case it would actually be way above the head like in this fisheye image . Horizon line placement is honestly not very intuitive and I screw it up 10 out of 10 times if I'm not paying careful attention. But if that ground line is actually the forest edge and not the horizon line then the forest looks like a flat wall since the line is so uniform. I'd recommend doing online tutorials on 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point perspective before trying any super difficult fisheye perspectives like this. It was admirable to attempt fisheye perspective though -- I'm definitely too scared to try x_x

Hopefully that clarifies what I meant. All that said, I still think this is a great piece and even the flaws just make it look more stylized.

Coolio! Thanks for all the advice. Now you've got me really curious about the 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point perspective tutorials. I haven't heard much of them before, but now I can go learn.

That's so cool! Studying Forestry sounds like fun! Judging by your drawing you seem to be into the conservation aspect of forestry???

Yep, good guess. I also intend to minor in Philosophy/Ethics in hopes that it will help me in that regard. And thank you very much!
