Thanks! A new fic (well, I adopted the plot from someone else) that I felt inspired to start work on after seeing a couple of certain Disney movies. I'm going to post it here once I whip up some rudimentary cover art for it.
Because of the whole cliche "lions are kings" thing, or something? TLK's just decent to me. There are other Disney movies I like far better. I was inspired to actually revamp her appearance for this fic because she's gonna get a love interest in it (granted a one-sided one, since she doesn't like him), and honestly in the movie she's not... very attractive. She's also younger in the story then what I picture her to be in the film, where she strikes me as being fully-grown. I'm not one of these people who thinks every single character out there needs to look like supermodels, but in this case I thought a makeover would help things along.

I see. o: Another thing to look forward to. : 3
Maybe. Though I think The Lion King was as much cause as effect in my dislike of lions. Mostly I rememebr the movie as vulgar. But, I also think I found the plot and characters unengaging. The only thing I like are a few of the songs.
And ah. xD Well I think the hyaenas were specifically designed to be unattractive, which is a shame. So i certainly approve of a makeover. I'm also curious about this love interest, though I suppose that will be revealed in due time. xD

*nods* I didn't like lions prior to the move, but I do like Mufasa, Zira, and most of the other major lion characters (not Scar though. Fun villain, but his fanbase is a joke). I see cartoon animals as being totally different from their real-life counterparts -- I don't like flesh-and-blood coyotes for example, but I love Antoine. But yeah, I agree that TLK's toilet humor is stupid, and annoyingly enough it's all the franchise seems to focus on with the Timon and Pumbaa characters.
I wouldn't doubt it if they were (I remember a critic saying the hyenas looked more like oversized mice then hyenas). I can give you a hint about said love interest -- he's a canon character from a different series.

Huh. I see; we're somewhat different in that regard, maybe. Because animals I like in real life tend to line up with animals I like in cartoons, but I can like cartoon animals that I loathe in real life. In fact The Lion King is kind of a case in point. I like Scar, to an extent anyway (I wouldn't say I'm a fan, haha. I had a weird impression of the one fan I knew, but I don't want to talk about that in public). I also like Zira (going off of her song, anyway) -- but then, it's actually only male lions I feel antipathy for. Actually The Lion King 2 looks like it would be more interesting, but I've never watched it.
And ech.
xD That's not much of a hint! I did have this bizarre guess, but it wouldn't be valid if this is only for Disney (which maybe I missed something, but I'm not clear on).

I see. I tendnot to like how animals I like get depicted (mustelids, which I rarely see in animation -- there's only two such characters I call favorites of mine's), or I find the characters to be likable enough or alright, but not enough to start calling them my favorites. BTW, when comes to discovering favorite characters, I've noticed I tend to hone in on the ones that are deeply flawed and the like.
Actually The Lion King 2 looks like it would be more interesting, but I've never watched it.
I think you should watch it just to see whether or you'd like it.
LOL, you're right, it's not. Um... *thinks* He's a Ducktales character.

Ahhh. That makes sense. (And mustelids tend to get a bad rap.)
"BTW, when comes to discovering favorite characters, I've noticed I tend to hone in on the ones that are deeply flawed and the like."
:3 I tend to go for characters that have a strong personality. That is, strong-willed, know what they want, and aren't afraid to pursue it. I tend to lose characters that are whiny.
xD Someday.
Shoot. xD I don't hardly know anything about Ducktales, and of the handful of characters I do know none go with Shenzi in my mind. I've also forgotten what my guess was from before.

Yep. Or they don't make characters out of certain animals at all.
Yeah, that seems to be a commonality with your faves. I don't think I'd use the word whiny to describe any of my favorites. xD It's an eclectic mix of characters, but looking at the list (I was working on a list for a meme), most of them are strong and fairly smart if not outright intelligent. Well -- from what I understand, Antoine in SatAM could be whiny at times, but he was there just to make everyone else look better by comparison, plus he's pretty flat anyways. He's become one of those weird kinds of characters that I like because of what he could've been rather then what he was. Since that list cover a variety of character types, many of them have all sorts of flaws, ranging from anxiety (which I have) to bitterness and so on. I also tend to like characters that everybody else hates, while popular characters strike me as being boring, if not unlikable and in general overrated.
Oh, and in regards to that Scar fan you mentioned, Disney fans in general tend to be cuckoo for cocoa puffs, as it were.
Well, I think this guy was only in the movie and maybe one or two series episodes at the most, so I'd be surprised if anyone remember him. Sad to say I hope he's not in the reboot, because I quite dislike what it's done to the characters. :-/

-Nods.- Though at least if they'r enot being made, they arne't being made badly. >>
I also really tend to like bitter/vengeful characters, and characters that are alone. Sephiroth, Nightmare Moon, Foxy, Mangle, the Phantom of the Opera -- it's something they all have in common, and that's probably close to a "Top 5" list right there.
Antoine didn't come off to me as what I would call "whiny". I mean more like... I dont' know, Aang comes to mind: people who don't want to face up to reality. I don't know that I'm 100% consistent here.
Anyway Antoine was a joke and was meant to be one. xD Not that I found his portrayal to be funny. I also think a lot of stuff that went on with him didn't make much of an impression because it annoyed me, but not in a lasting way (like ATLA).
There have to be some sane Disney fans. xD But... ehhh, yeah, I'll try to talk about it in private.
And huh. I had heard that the reboot was good. Though come to think of it the person I heard that from doesn't really have the same tastes as me.

Touché.
What a coincidence. Some of my favorites are bitter/vengeful/loners (Bellwether, Callaghan, Magneto, Hans). I didn’t know you liked the Phantom; I think Mask is a fan too.
I’ve only read a couple of SatAM episode transcripts, so I will take your word on it. Everything about that Antoine is suggestive of somebody who doesn’t want to face a rather awful reality, hence all the bragging and stuff. And that actually could’ve made him an interesting character if they had focused on that in a serious manner, but that would’ve required better writing for the show overall. I don’t get the writers’ sense of uh, “humor”, but that kind of thing was rampant in cartoons back then. And I am happy the show didn’t ruin him for you.
*thinks* There’s you, Fox, Mask, two other folks I know... I'm really struggling to come up with more names here. Either I don't know the person well enough to determine what they're like, or I know enough about them to keep my distance. But yeah, I’m curious to hear what you have to say.
I have a number of problems with the reboot:
1) It's supposed to be about action/adventure, but undercuts this by having the characters do nothing but crack jokes constantly and never take anything seriously. If the characters themselves are treating the threats and tense situations like they're less then nothing, then why on earth should I care? One thing I doremember about the old show is that as a kid watching it, I legitimately would be like, "How are Scrooge and co going to get out of this mess?" There was actual tension in both the scenes and from the characters as they faced villains and other dangers.
2) They messed Webbigail up in an attempt to appease or appeal to all the people who hate the original character because they think she’s too girly. She was a little girl who acted like a little girl (IE: she likes tea parties with her toys). There's nothing wrong with that. Apparently people magically forget that the triplets initially misjudged her as a weak girl, but she proved herself with her strength. She was fine before. Now she’s this over-the-top weird Mary Sue who can beat up anybody, including grown adults. Actually, they messed up a lot of the characters. Yes, the original Scrooge was toned down from his comic counterpart (who was a lot more cantankerous), but this new version actually loses treasure and doesn’t care one bit? Bullcrap. That’s not even IC for him. And the triplets need to have a house dropped on them.
3) The episodes revolve more around the kids as opposed to them, Scrooge, Launchpad, and the rest of their friends running around the world on crazy adventures/or running into outrageous characters.
4) They're pandering super-hard to fans by tossing Goof Troops, Tailspin (which makes no sense), and Darkwing Duck into this universe. I'm all for a good Easter egg, and if you can cross properties over in a reasonable way, fine. But just this smacks of “Look! You guys remember all these other shows, right? Well they’re here too!”
I’m not saying the original Ducktales was an untouchable masterpiece, but the new one is just Gravity Falls with ducks.

I like Magneto too. o: I played him, albeit briefly, on the X-Men forum I ran. And yes indeed! I'm kind of an odd phan, since I've only ever heard the cast recording of the musical, never seen the show or read any of the books, but still definitely consider myself into enough to use the special term. xD It would be cool if Mask was also a phan; it fits with her name.~
My conception of Antoine was formed by reading that one fanfic, and I don't think anything will ever change it. xD Though on that account, I don't know that you'll even recognise him. >> Mostly in SatAM, once I saw the character type Antoine was I tried to ignore him, except for agreeing with him that Sonic needed to be taken down a few pegs.
Contrary to PotO, I don't really consider myself a Disney fan, so it's kinda wierd seeing myself in that list. : p
Oooo, I think somebody else is not a fan of Gravity Falls.~ That actually gives me more of an idea of why you don't like it than everything else, though I do like seeing your reasons as well.
1. Sounds like a common complaint I have with current stuff.
2. How can they even call him "Scrooge" if he's not interested in treasure? << Don't know aught about Webbigail, but I can certainly see them doing that to a character and it bites.
4. I'm pretty sure Goof Troop and Darkwing exist in the same universe? Though that doesn't mean they have to egregiously stick them all the time (no idea how often it's happened, just saying). Talespin makes no sense at all, no.

If you haven't already, I'd ask her about it sometime if I were you.
You mean Kitsune?
Guess that's changed now, lol.
Thanks. However, I feel it'd be inaccurate to say I hate Gravity Falls per say. One of the characters in it does interest me (no, not Dipper), but several others put me off (Mabel and Grunkle Stan mainly) with how they tended to be approached. Gravity Falls should just be its own thing, but it feels like Disney wants all their shows aimed at an older crowd to mimic it. I miss the stuff like Aladdin, Tailspin, Gargoyles, and Mighty Ducks. Those shows aren't perfect, but they knew when there was a time for silliness and a time for the heroes and bad guys both to get serious. But everything nowadays is treated like a big joke, and a lot of the time it's more annoying then funny.
How can they even call him "Scrooge" if he's not interested in treasure?
I dunno. They clearly didn't think about that. And I'm really getting tired of these "strong female characters" being annoying (or boring, or both) and there for the purpose of pandering to the easily impressed.
I'm pretty sure Goof Troop and Darkwing exist in the same universe?
I suppose they could be, but was that ever stated anywhere?

If I can ever catch her. xD I'd feel a little awkward just PMing ehr nad asking "Hey do you like Phantom of the Opera"?
I... think so. -Sweatdrop.- Okay yeah. I had to actually go to my faovurites to check. When I first read this comment I was like "Kitsune what?" That's what happens when you procrastinate replying, you lose all sense of the conversation. xD;
Though I'm still not sure what you meant by "I guess that's changed". I think you mean about considering myself a Disney fan? If so, then no it hasn't changed. I'm a fan of specific movies, but Disney as a whole I'm indifferent towards at best.
"But everything nowadays is treated like a big joke, and a lot of the time it's more annoying then funny."
I've noticed that in a lot of things, and it really ticks me off.
"And I'm really getting tired of these "strong female characters" being annoying (or boring, or both) and there for the purpose of pandering to the easily impressed."
I can sympathise. xD
And nah, not to my knowledge. It was just an assumption I made based on them all featuring characters related to Mickey, Donald and Goofey. Which I realise, now anyway, wouldn't -necessarily- put them in the same universe. But it still seems plausible to me.
