Description There are many legends from different cultures that say there's a rabbit in the moon, I couldn't find the one that inspired me to do this, but it was the one when the rabbit sacrifices itself, and the gods reward him, sending him to the moon.

The rabbit-in-the-moon is surely Chinese, I remember it from a storybook I had when I was little. I love the slightly disturbing look of the painting

I think the legend I read was Mexican, but it's been more than 15 years ago. Either way, it was a beautiful story. Glad you liked it!

I have always seen this kind of bunny shape in the moon but I never knew of the story of one. Nobody else I know can ever see the bunny shape when I tell them about how I see it. Now I know that part of me isn't crazy.

The funny thing is that when I was a child I used to see a different bunny shape. To make this piece, I did a bit of research and I found the real shape...so I guess I'm crazier than you!

The shape I see is slightly different than what you drew but much like it because it's kind of hunched over like you made it. My bunny vision is a bit contrapposto because it bends and twists. Instead of arms pointing downward they are pulled in to the chest and the head and ears tilt downward facing outward and the body twists, I guess starting at the shoulders so that you see one hind leg and the tail in profile. This is a rather complicated description and I'd be better off to draw it as I see it instead of talking about it.

I tried to found the reference ( or at least, what gave me the idea) that I used, but it turned out to be so different! I guess I took a few artistic liberties without realising

Wow, just amazing! this is the first time I've ever said this, but that is actually better than what I imagined when I read the book!

juan-pablo In reply to abasss [2008-11-06 21:54:11 +0000 UTC]

It's not based on Watership Down?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

abasss In reply to juan-pablo [2008-11-07 17:08:03 +0000 UTC]

No it's not It's based on a legend (sorry I couldn't find the exact version) about a bunny that sacrifices itself to feed the gods, but the gods in return send him to live in the mon..or something like that. It's curious, because a lot of people told me about Watership Down, but I only saw the movie when I was little, and the only thing I remember is that it freaked me out, nothing else

This one's a real stunner - beautiful work; very imaginative, and the mood you've set goes well with the legend.

This makes me think of the animated movie Watership Down.

I saw the movie a looong time ago (it freaked me out a bit, to be honest ) and it's possible that that movie was in my head when I did this, but I based the drawing and coloring in Beatrix Potter's work

Hey! welcome back!
I said some time ago that I wouldn't use photoshop anymore, but when this idea struck my head, the only medium that seemed logic to use at the time was photoshop
