Description I could have went monochrome and made a herd of zebras, but tigers are my favorite animal so I chose gold, white, and browns. Masking was really wild on this one and this was a cool formula to work with (Julia fn(z)+e^z). The spiral was actually a flower type pattern, but I tweaked out the colors to force a spin on it because it looked more interesting. Lots of color layering to get the arms of the spiral to change colors.

I was thinking 'zebra' myself but the stripes need to be darker for that. Love those stripes by the way. What a work of art!

If I ever get into a major slump I might revisit this one and try a pure zebra on it.

Tigers are cool! It's obvious it was a lot of work to get it to look like this! When I first saw it a while ago, after you first posted it, I still felt more inclined to see it as zebras in spite of all you hard work, but looking at it now it's definitely 'tiger' to me as well! Guess not being able to keep up with dA for a while wasn't such a bad thing after all. Keep up the great work!!

Aeires In reply to YuichiSuzutake [2005-05-31 23:06:12 +0000 UTC]

You mean you keep up with DA?

Thanks, I was almost going to name it something zebra. Lately I've really started liking them after getting some new wallpapers. Tigers are too cool though so I named it that. This was more of a fun image than one of my more serious ones. If I remember it was the first one right after school, so it was more of a celebration.

Great work as usual I think the contrast between the 2 different striped patterns could be stronger, it took me a while to notice the difference.

Aeires In reply to jSepia [2005-05-22 19:38:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The more I look at this, the more I kinda wish I would have done differently. Maybe a rainy day project to rework it.

Apophis-PT [2005-05-18 11:45:00 +0000 UTC]

your fractals are truly the most bizarre/abstract ones, you use and bend the UF totally to your will, and the results are always unique and surprising, way different than any other UF fractals, and this is no exception, not that I like it enough for a fav or something, but it's its abstractness, odness of it, so unlike the average fractals that captivates me, this one and lots of others you submitted

Congrats on the DD, about time they notice your excellent work

Aeires In reply to Apophis-PT [2005-05-18 20:43:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, I deeply appreciate that. I think the smartest thing I did was make a conscious effort to not try and rush an image in a day or less. I'm actually finding myself working on the same image over many days, so each time I approach it I'm more fresh. Kinda wish I would have learned that a long time ago, but it's a growth thing.

Aeires In reply to Deborah-Valentine [2005-05-17 23:13:32 +0000 UTC]

Could use some sleep. I was rendering late and figured I'd wait it out, which means I was up when the daily's swap out. Needless to say, I couldn't sleep after that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Deborah-Valentine In reply to Aeires [2005-05-18 16:20:14 +0000 UTC]

how long do your average renders take?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to Deborah-Valentine [2005-05-18 20:39:37 +0000 UTC]

If I render for print, it's anywhere between 12 to 50 hours average. This one was actually quick, but I wanted to render it at size and then render the print. The at size shows more of the texture if you do that, instead of shrinking the print down to smooth it out. That extra render made the print finish around 2 in the morning.

i could do the set-up before bed

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to Deborah-Valentine [2005-05-19 17:03:52 +0000 UTC]

Normally that's what I do. This was supposed to be a few hours quicker, but in typical render fashion, the timer started slowing down, so I figured I'd just wait it out. Couldn't sleep anyway.

I'm late! ;__; I'm kind of behind with viewing the deviations and answering comments. Too much stuff is going on but first...congrats!! I saw your beautiful work in the Daily Deviations!!! ^_____^ I'm so proud of you! Although the DD isn't really that important but still...coolness! ^-^
This one's really different. It would be beautiful to see this many tigers together. It reminds me of movies like Ferngully when animals have to leave their homes because the people want to destroy it. Certainly an interesting deviation! ^^

Thanks. Escher did some cool things with his art. I'd love to be able to duplicate that on a very precise level with fratals.

zedgrafix In reply to Aeires [2005-05-17 23:54:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Escher is amazing and to try and duplicate his ideas into fractals would not be easy. I admire your talent and most probably a lot of hard work.
