Description Sketch of the day. Charcoal pencil (6B) and blending with a finger.

Thanks to this reference:Β

Sorry, once I posted it I realized that I've messed up on proportions for the eye, so I've corrected it and reposted again.

Thanks But I didn't come up with a composition (you can see on the drawing a reference to a photo).

There are a lot of things that can be done: 1) Make sure that before you commit to the darker tones you have all your proportions right and perspective is in order too. So, when you're just starting the portrait do it in the order of from the biggest structure to the smallest approach, that way you can make sure that proportions are correctly done; 2) Don't neglect the highlights, they bring that 3D feel to the drawing. So, as an example, the hair has a volume, so put some highlights to make sure that it's around the head and not just flat on the paper....And there are a lot more things that can be done

This is really really goodΒ
I can’t imagine working with charcoal. I have enough trouble with a graphite pencil..LOLΒ

- I like it better then graphite. It's more intimidating at the beginning but once you get used to working with it it's a much better medium vs graphite.

hehe, I struggled with that one eye But then decided to make it darker to contrast the face, basically created a little bit of a dramatic effect...Well, at least I tried

What, only that eye? I would have thought the one you couldn't see would have given you more trouble.
