I mentioned to someone the other day that doing character illustrations makes me flesh out their design better, and this one is a great example. Before this I hadn't worked out a hairstyle for carvers, so I thought... what would be unique to them? I came up with beads that they carve after their initiations and wear on braids, which doubles as a way to show their skill because carving stone beads seems REALLY hard.
