Description Samantha Traynor waiting in Commander Shepard's quarters between showers...

When I was drawing this my partner came and looked at my screen and commented, 'Your Traynor really doesn't like wearing clothes does she?'

to which I only have to say

maybe the Normandy is REALLY HOT alright

Also I have a tumblr these days and have dipped my toe in posting some art to it now and again. Have a look if you want to! It's mostly Mass Effect related.

I agree about the vanishing point being too high and making the perspective off, but it's a gorgeous piece. I love the lighting and the blue.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could draw like this. I'd make one depicting a happy ending for both Shepard and Samantha. Sitting on the porch of their big house, with a picket fence, watching their two kids play with Garrus, their Golden Retriever.

You're welcome. As far as I'm concerned, that's how the series ends for me.

Either Samantha and Shepard had sex, or Shepard got real drunk and Samantha as watching Shepard's fish while she recovers from her hangover...LOL

Samantha: "Wow it's really hot in here, can we turn on the air conditioning?"
Shepard: "Sorry. I had engineer Adams remove the cooling system and reapply it to the engines.Safety first."
Samantha: "Didn't you get a part on the Citadel for tha-"
Shepard: "Nope. Scavenged it from the captain's cabin. Can't help you."
Samantha: "Um ok- if you say so..." *takes of pants*
Shepard: *grins*

The perspective looks kinda off, like she's drawn in an entirely different one. The legs are also a little short, the neck not very neck-shaped and the shirt doesn't look like a shirt much at all. Try studying how cloth falls from life! It kind of actually wrinkles. Unless she's wearing a t-shirt made from very new and very heavy sweater-fabric the fabric should lie flat over the shoulders!

Oh man. This painting was such a labour of love and it sucks to hear such undiluted criticism about something I've just got finished working so hard on. I do see most of your points though. I'm still learning with a lot of stuff and drawing fabric without exact references has always been an achilles heel of mine. Not sure what you mean about the perspective though - I do see something slightly weird perhaps with the angle of her legs? Maybe if it looked like her pelvis was lower and more tucked in behind her lower legs it would look less wonky? Or do you mean something else?

JuciVegeSC In reply to AlanaKai [2012-07-08 23:16:23 +0000 UTC]

The aquarium seems to be drawn from a much higher point of view. Lower the vanishing point! And the girl in the background, I guess.

Her legs should seem longer (try drawing studies from life or reference, legs are stupidly long sometimes) and her feet… I don't know, I don't really get what's going on with them, otherwise I don't really see too much wrong with the pose (as you could see from my own work If you bothered with that, which you of course don't have too, I'm not very good at these things myself) other than it being a little stiff. Hold on hope! Drawing people from life makes this better quickly.

I did not in any way try to make you feel bad, I just wanted to help you get better. ^^ Being able to take criticism well is an important skill, but I see how it's not nice hearing bad things about something you worked hard with. You should know that this is a really good step on the way! Good luck!

Yes of course, and I do appreciate you taking the time to leave a more thoughtful comment. I definitely see what you mean about her legs being too short. I think it's partially an issue of failed foreshortening on her upper legs. I've been looking at this piece for wwaaay too long to go back and revise it any time soon, but I'll keep in mind your critique for later work. Thank you!
