Continuing with my drawings of the Sailor Scouts, now it's time to talk about my favorite sailor scout of all, because I love her design and her personality since I was a little girl and I always loved her strong and determined character: Sailor Mars, Rei Hino who is a temperamental girl who studies high school at the prestigious school "Private Girls T.A.", to follow her dream of becoming a priestess. She lives with her grandfather at the Hikawa Temple, where she serves as a priestess; her father travels a lot and that's why she never sees him and her mother died when she was very little. Rei has psychic powers and can detect evil presences and negative energy, which is why many consider her strange and for this reason, Rei did not have many friends, but all that changed when she met Usagi and Ami. She can also foresee the future by reading fire, which is also her fighting element. She likes to meditate, read, collect manga and her favorite animal is the panda. Her favorite subject is Ancient Scriptures, her favorite stone is ruby, she loves music and she is also good at composing songs, because her voice is very sweet and melodious. She likes order and neatness, and she is disciplined like any good priestess.
She has two pet crows: Phobos and Deimos, whose names come from the two satellites that Mars has. At first lonely because of her strong character, Rei finds her best friends in Usagi and the girls, she always argues with Usagi, but the truth is that she esteems her too much, she cares about her and although in the form of reproaches she always encourages her in difficult moments giving her advices and is also capable of giving her life for her without hesitation for a moment. Rei does not like Usagi's meaningless comments which constantly makes her bully her and make fun of Usagi because of her goofiness, nor does she like watching television, as she considers it a waste of time. Much less does she like the attitude of her grandfather, who always wants to attract beautiful girls to the temple to work as maids.
When Jedite plans to use the Hikawa Temple as a center to gather energy through amulets, he doesn't know that the only thing it will do is cause the third sailor scout to be found. Usagi and Luna go to the Hikawa temple to investigate and buy lucky charms, since several buses have mysteriously disappeared; when Luna sees Rei it seems to her, due to her mysterious personality, that she may be the princess of the moon that she has searched for so much; she then leaves him her transformation pen, which in moments of danger, will turn her into the sailor scout of fire and passion: Sailor Mars. Then Rei will go from a maiden with mental abilities to one of the most powerful sailor scouts who uses fire as a combat element.
Since Rei is very moody and has a very special temperament, she always has differences with Usagi and they are always fighting and arguing about everything, but deep down they are best friends. At first Rei was also in love with Tuxedo Mask, she even had some dates with Mamoru (Darien), which caused Usagi's uncontrollable jealousy, but for a very short time, because upon realizing that Usagi and Mamoru's destiny was to be together, Rei stepped aside so that her friend could be happy next to her lover.
Although she has an explosive and sometimes impatient temperament, she is also very focused and is the one in charge of supporting and putting the other Sailor scouts in order when things are not going very well. She is the most independent of all of them and that is why she does not like women who depend on men, which is why she doesn’t like being in love.
Grandpa Hino hires a young man named Kumada Yuichiro (Nicholas) to work at the temple, and he is madly in love with her, although Rei seems not to care about his feelings and even likes to treat him badly. Over time, Rei realizes that Kumada's love is sincere, since he has even risked his life on multiple occasions to protect her.
Thanks to her psychic powers and her ability to sense danger in the air, Sailor Mars is a good asset in combat. But in addition to fire, she uses papers with inscriptions in ancient Japanese, called "Kanjis", in which she neutralizes positive energy and then places them on the enemy's forehead while she says the phrase: "Evil spirit, disappear."
She is capable of giving her life to save that of her princess and great friend: Usagi, even dying on two occasions to save the life of her best friend, because the love and appreciation she has for Usagi is great, without caring if she does not survive the attack, which is one of the reasons why Sailor Mars is my favorite sailor scout of all time because even if they spend time arguing and fighting, it is demonstrated that Rei cares a lot about Usagi’s wellbeing and will do anything for her to make sure that she is happy, safe and sound. She is very selfless too.
