i used 1/500th of a second for that photo 
you might wanna take a look at this [link] that was one i took with 1/1000th of a second, the most my camera can do
i think the general rule with catching water is to do the highest exposure possible
just run a tap and keep experimenting is my best advice

Gotcha, yeah that was the problem I had with high exposure, everything turned out so dark. Your right, I did want to see that picture! Thanks for the advice.

yeah.. i think the most important thing is that the actual photo is light but if you're outside in bright sunlight you can have a muuuuch higher exposure than inside at night time..
