Description The domes are characteristic of the Byzantine style used for the Greek Orthodox churches in Cyprus. There are many old churches dating from the 11th and 12th centuries dotted around, still in use. During the Ottoman occupation, bell towers were pulled down, but in the 1850s, the churches were allowed to put them back up again, so many of these churches have relatively new bell towers dating from the late 19th century.
