Her name is Cassandra Marks and she refuses to go by an alias. She's one of the smartest people in the world and she's only 16. She looks out at the New York skyline and wonders how her plan is working. She can figure out most things but human emotion/interaction...you might as well be speaking Japanese in Kenya. She's Black Steel's secret weapon but she knows that soon she'll be called to the frontlines and she's afraid, with good reason. Being super smart is great but doesn't do you any good in a fight but she is smart enough to know that she'll do the most good with these new Guardians that Black Steel is forming but it doesn't make her feel any braver.

A phone call comes over the speaker, her father calling from France. He asks how things are going and she entertains him in light conversation realizing that he's probably in between females and calling her to pass the time. It's not that it annoys her, she's used to it, it's been this way her whole life. He comes and goes leaving her in the care of nanny after nanny but now she's old enough she doesn't need one, plus her big brother is home often enough so she doesn't feel alone...too often. This group will be good for her and her brother too, but convincing him is going to be hard and smarts versus emotions....well she was still trying to figure a way to get him to come along and keep the secret from their father. That was going to be the hard part and part of the reason she's afraid to approach her brother about all of this but she knows she'll need him to do this plus she's all mental and he's all physical, but getting big bro to hide something from dad...

Still deep in thought her father asks her if everything is all right. She tells him what he wants to hear "it's a boy I like" and he starts on with one of those speeches where he doesn't realize that she's not listening as long as she makes some kind of sound every now and then he's happy, she's happy.

As her father finally hangs up, her brother comes in from God knows where she thinks and she knows she's ready. Her reasoning: How can the children of Captain Patriot not want to go out and fight the good fight.
