Description
So, I have joined 's contest and this is my entry for her. Anyway, from left to right we have Elada, Murre and Apatite. In the background, the black dragon is Xantus, the father of Elada and Murre as he goes off hunting. The dragon in the moon is supposed to be Princess Burn and the dragon-shaped clouds are Bismuth, the mother of Apatite, and Aquaria, the mother of Murre and Elada. When it came down to choosing which OCs to do, I knew I wanted to do my new OCs, Elada and Murre. A rough idea about the picture formed into my mind and I thought it'd be cool if I chose a dragon who's had a similar past to these two. Looking through Flare's gallery, I found Apatite and thought her story and the story of my OCs matched up, in a way, perfectly.
Basically what's happening here is Elada is telling Apatite the story of her and Murre's mother and how Princess Burn was involved with it. Honestly, the shading is weak, but I tried for it. Also, the night sky is way too light for my liking, but I hope you like the picture. As an added bonus, here's a little story to go with it.
----------
The large, orange SkyWing glanced behind him, checking at the younger pair of dragons. One of the dragons, a purple female glanced at the world around her while her brown-scaled brother simply started ahead. As they flew over the thinned forest in silence, the male SkyWing spoke.
"So, how are you two doing back there?"
"We're fine, Xantus. You realize that you don't need to check on us every chance you get, right?" The odd-looking brown dragon snapped. The purple female rolled her brown eyes.
"What Murre meant to say was, we're both fine and we're glad you asked. It shows that you care about us and that we actually mean something to you when you ask as often as you do. Anyway, may I ask how you're doing?"
"Well thanks Elada, I'm glad you asked. Anyway I'm doing fine." Once again, the small traveling group was taken by silence. Only a few minutes later did one of them speak.
"What is that?!" Elada exclaimed.
"I'd say it's a bird, but it's too big. Wait a moment...It's a dragon! Looks like it needs help because it appears not to be flying too well," Xantus replied. As the small family got closer, Elada called out.
"Hey, do you need any help?" The muddy-brown dragon looked up, but said nothing.
"Wait, stop! We have no idea what we're rushing into! For all we know, this dragon could kill us! Besides, don't you see those black markings?" Murre paused as his father and sister glanced back towards the odd dragon.
"So what, she has black markings, what's the big deal?"
"What's the big deal? Have you not heard what everyone's been saying? A dragon with black markings is a curse and bad news. We shouldn't go anywhere near her."
"Well, if we turn back now, it'd be rude," Elada pointed out. Without another word, Xantus and Elada edged closer while Murre stayed behind.
"Uh, hello there, do you need any help?" the orange SkyWing asked.
"No I'm fine. Thank you though." Before, the female dragon could fly off, Elada flapped beside her.
"You sure? I mean, it's getting dark and it's not the best idea to stay out when the sun goes down. Besides, we were just about to set up camp." With a sigh, the muddy-brown dragon nodded.
"Okay then, I guess I can stay." Though Xantus and Elada were grinning, Murre rolled his eyes in annoyance. They never listen, do they?, he thought bitterly. In a large clearing, the group of dragons carefully flew down to set up camp. Things went by quickly and the sun had set within the hour. Despite it being warm, Elada and Murre helped set up a fire. Once everyone we settled in, they all sat in silence. Shifting his wings around, Xantus finally turned to the new dragon, who hadn't spoke once since they found her.
"So, we haven't really had a chance to introduce ourselves yet. It may a good idea to go ahead and do that. I'm Xantus and these are my children, Elada and Murre. What's your name?"
"Well, I'm Apatite," the brown dragon simply answered.
"Apatite? Well, hello then. So, if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing out here alone? With the war and all, it's quite dangerous," Elada stated.
"I just wanted to go out on my own, that's all." Once again, everyone fell silent. Through the uncomfortable lack of sound, the purple dragon cleared her throat.
"Well, we know nothing about each other, so why don't we change that? Apatite, would you like to tell us about your past?"
"Not really, but thanks for asking. It may be a better idea if you go first," Apatite stated.
"Well, uh okay then, but we'll be up for a while. You sure you don't want to go first?" The hybrid female asked. Apatite shrugged, not giving a proper answer.
"Okay then. Well, it all started a long time ago, before the war with a SandWing scribe named Weaver. Cousin to the Queen, she wasn't considered a threat to the throne because she never had any interest for it. Ginkgo was a low, SeaWing servant that no one ever paid any attention to. He was there to live to serve the queen, live as a poor dragon and die without anyone noticing. A simple life for a simple dragon. As fate would have it, he was there serving the SandWing guests. No one paid mind to him as they were served a feast of SeaWing delicacies. When he went to Weaver, she was kind and actually had a conversation with him. With her few days in the Summer Palace, the two quickly became friends. When it came time to leave, they agreed to meet again, despite giving on opposite sides of Pyrrhia. After a few years of meeting, they fell in love and soon, Weaver was expecting his eggs. With the prospect of dragonets wqith blood form two tribes and parents with opposite social status, they decided to run away. Somehow, Queen Oasis got wind of their plan and sent for a SandWing to send a message to Ginkgo to meet with Weaver. When they met up, it wasn't Weaver who was waiting for him. Instead, it was the SandWing queen herself with a few guards. Ginkgo, surprised by the attack, was quickly killed. With his status, no one in the Kingdom of the Sea noticed his disappearance and his body was simply caste into an abyss, never seen again." Elada paused of a moment, before continuing.
"Once Weaver was told of the news, she was heartbroken. In a fit of sobbing, she told the former queen of the eggs she was expecting. Queen Oasis accused her of going back on her word of not wanting queen by blaming her of possible heirs to the throne. Instead of being executed, the scribe was imprisoned until she laid her eggs. A few months later, that's exactly what happened. As soon as she laid a single egg, she was quickly killed. The dragonet would never know her parents and would grow up with a terrible life." Elada paused as tears formed in her eyes. Meanwhile, Murre dug his talons into the ground with anger. Sensing the unease, Xantus got up.
"You know what, we haven't eaten yet, and I probably should go hunting. You three, stay safe and hidden.
"Oh yes, we can defiantly stay hidden when we're in the middle of a clearing with a fire going," Murre growled. The large SkyWing sighed and hung his head before flying off. Once everything settled again, Elada continued.
"For a year, Queen Oasis watched the egg hatch with her favorite daughter, Princess Burn. As we all know, Burn loves everything odd and strange. Her mother allowed her to have a twisted collection. All the while, her other two daughter, Blaze and Blister, stood by, all but oblivious to what was going on. For a year the two of them watched and waited for the hybrid dragonet to hatch and she did. For a few years, everything was fine. Burn studied the SandWing SeaWing hybrid named Aquaria with interest. She'd put her through various tests to see what she would do. After discovering every quality and trait Aquaria ham, as well as basically torturing her while doing it, the princess grew tired of the hybrid and debated on what to do with her. Once Aquaria reached fourteen years old, Burn knew the hybrid's fate. She decided to stuff and kill her. Of course, Aquaria begged for her life and that's when Burn thought of something else. The SandWing princess agreed, but only if Aquaria would produce hybrids for her. Despite the unknown future, the young dragon agreed. Barely three days after the meeting between the two, Aquaria was forced with a vastly older MudWing...," Elada awkwardly paused before continuing.
"A few months after being placed with the MudWing prisoner, Elada laid her first eggs. Most of them were duds but two. Of the two, one of the unhatched dragonets died in its egg while the other barely survived a month after its hatching. Despite her disappointment, Burn told us that the dragonets were stuffed and placed in her collection. Aquaria was forced to repeat the process again, this time with a SandWing. When her eggs hatched, only one survived past her first year before dying. Again and again, Aquaria was brought back to the dungeons to be bred with any of the captured males Burn chose. Out of over fifty dud eggs and dead dragonets, only two survived. We never met our brother and sister, however we do know they're alive." Once again the people dragon stopped her story as she glanced down at her talons. And despite his anger, even Murre seemed to have shed some tears. Apatite looked horrified which masked her own anger and sadness.
"Two years after Queen Oasis died, Aquaria was placed with a male Skywing prisoner. His name is Xantus, our father. He refused to do anything with Aquaria, but after being tortured by Burn, he fathered her eggs. She only laid two, both of which were us. Two years after we hatched, she died after not being able to produce any more children for Burn to study or stuff. Every day after that for three years, we were forced to endure poking and prodding from her, just so she could study us. If we didn't escape when we did, we would've ended up like our mother as soon as we turned seven. Thankfully, our father saved us. He got word of the death of our mother and was concerned for Murre and I. While Burn's Stronghold was being attacked, he helped us escape five years after our hatching. Ever since, we've been on the run away from the talons of Princess Burn and her lunacy." Elada finshed her story and Apatite shifted uneasily.
"Well, I'm so sorry to hear that. No one should ever go through something like that. I assume you both heat her?"
"Are you kidding? Hate is an understatement for how we feel. We want her dead and we want to see her head on a spike or stuffed. If there's one dragon we don't want winning this war, it is Burn. We both hate her with every fiber of our being and until she is killed or at least stopped, we will never be safe," Murre growled. Once again the night was filled with silence. Apatite sighed.
"I'm so sorry, for the both of you. Well, now that you told me the life story of your grandparents, mother and yourselves, I guess it's my turn now. My mother's name was Bismuth and she was sent on a diplomatic mission by Queen Moorhen," Apatite began. Elada and Murre listened to her every word as she explained everything from how Bismuth got captured to her being cursed and even the deaths of the ten, adult SandWings. By the time the muddy-brown dragon was done, the fire was slowly dying. Xantus had returned with his catches and everyone quikcly ate before going to sleep.
