This is the surgery room on the U.S. aircraft carrier Midway.

Below, you can see a gathering of four carriers in one spot, a rare event.

Wow....does this ever bring back memories! I was a surgical scrub nurse and a nurse that ran the operating rooms as well. On night call I ran the entire O.R at a major trauma center in the southeast. I loved it......ahhhhh.......those were the days.....of very long days.....hours on call.....no sleep......sheer fear and excitement and fulfillment! Very nice shot. You are so good with angles!

on Surgery on Aircraft Carrier. It brings back memories for me as well since I used to organize surgical staff and schedule the surgeries in the evening. It's not a job for an older person. Your heart would quit. This is a floating operating room several decks below an aircraft carrier. In the old days, they would amputate shattered limbs without anesthesia. [link]

Very true! I remember how fatigued I would be at the end of a long day - which was everyday! See...I knew we had things in common! Makes me cringe to think bpout taking off limbs without anesthesia!

Sometimes, I feel like a used turkey carcass that society has eaten and tossed away. I worked so hard in areas that help people: Surgery, Oncology, Social Service, and now I can't get back in. I know I can recover financially, but it hurts a bit knowing that employers now won't even look at me.

What a waste to not use your experience and talents! You know, it's terrible what society does now to anyone over 50 - 55. We used to respect the wisdom and knowledge that an older person had gained - and learn from them. Makes me wonder just how much more advanced we could be in this world - if society hadn't thrown that all away. Everything, is so youth oriented. I work hard to maintain my youthful attitude I've always had and sometimes it's a struggle to keep it now but I know I'd have the same problem if I were able to be job hunting now. I wonder if different parts of the country would not be so harsh (because of cultural differences) in their attitude about hiring older people?

I'm still sending out resumes, but it's like going to the convenience store and buying a lottery ticket, pretty much a feeling of futility. I prefer to think that the Force is guiding me to develop my sculpture skills and other talents I have.

Is this a museum aircraft carrier? Are these guys dummies operating on a dummy? (Not to disparage our fine men in the Navy!)

Yes. The doctors are a bunch of wax dummies!

do you suppose the drip into the dummy's arm contains liquid paraffin?
