Description Yesterday we bought a new budgie to our first budgie we have for about 3 months:

Our first one is called Pepik, eventhough i hate that name, its so cliché name people give almost every budgie...He was so sad and lonely and so yesterday we wend to buy one more so he had a friend. Grandma wanted a yellow or green one, but sadly the man who sells them has very young ones and the only male one that was old enough to be given away was this another blue budgie...
When we brought him home, grandma immediatelly started saying how ugly he is and that she didnt want another blue one and so on..so yeahh..i was kinda mad, eventhough i told her that we couldnt choose another one, she kept being so ungratefull -.- so i said ill grab the budgie and set him free....after then she finally shut up...
All in all she gave him a name Bertík, kinda stupid name, but still less cliché than Pepik... :/ so...today i paid alot of attention to him and to the pepik too...They both are not so used to people, but i was surprised that Bertik is getting used tohand more than Pepik eventhoguh we have him longer time...Bertik later let me to touch him and to pet him slowly...he also stayed on my finger and took food from my hand..grandpa told me to let them go out from the sage and fly around the room a bit...the room was small and clear, so it wasnt that complicated to keep an eye on them...when they had enogh, i had to catch them, because for example Pepik never comes back to the cage himself and once even grandpa couldnt catch him so Pepik was all free per night too...
But i am a pet pro ¦D jk xD i only had a good plan.. Bertik was easy to catch, as i said, he let me touch him so i simply slowly reached hand to him and then grabbed him...true he was bitting my fingers alot this time :/ btu still it was easy to get him....
Then Pepik...it was harder, but then he stayed on one stick above window and i catched him by his "tail" xD he immediatelly stopped moving, froze up and let me put him back to the cage...so grandparents were so surprised how i got them all back to the cage so easily xD
So...from whole this action i also tok some photos.. here is one with them both... Pepik is the one on left and Bertik is on right side ^^ i believe that at least Bertik might become a nice cutie with some effort ^^

Nice, but you should probably quarantine them first, or you might find out why people quarantine the hard way.

why? They are friends already, both are healthy, both should be boys, one is younger so the beak didnt get a color yet. But even if one is a female, they wont mate, unless they have a nest, so idk why to keep them away from each other

Do you know why people quarantine or what it is?

AngiShyArt In reply to MagicBirdie [2013-07-25 16:03:54 +0000 UTC]

it is to keep the birds away from each other...and some reasons i said already...dunno why else they should do that

MagicBirdie In reply to AngiShyArt [2013-07-25 17:29:06 +0000 UTC]

So you don't exactly know why people do it.

Birds like to hide their diseases and such, so it may be very difficult to identify them. When introducing a new bird, most people highly suggest quarantine. There have been many cases where not doing so have caused the deaths of many birds. A thirty day quarantine period will usually reveal any diseases.

Furthermore, if you have a new bird, try to leave it alone for a few days. Otherwise, they often get sick from stress.

so i exactly DO know why people do it.. and i said before, i already named a reasons of why they might be in quarantine, but you only kept asking if i know what it means and i do know, completly skipping that i already answered that before...i only added "dunno why else they should do that" because i didnt have any other ideas for why they might be in quarantine because i thought yu remembered what i said before, but you still meant some different reason...so now let me repost my reply before:

"They are friends already, both are healthy, both should be boys, one is younger so the beak didnt get a color yet. But even if one is a female, they wont mate, unless they have a nest, so idk why to keep them away from each other"

And you didn't look at what I wrote, did you? I said that birds often hide illness, AND they may get sick if you handle them when you first get them. Did you miss that?

you maybe have to think twice as i see..when i said they are healthy, it means that they already visited a vet to be checked.. however they hide their illness, vet can find out the best, right? Dunno how bad vets are in your country, dude, but our vet said they are fine... we had one bird for more like 2 months already, never ever looked likegetting worse with any sickness, if he was ill, it should appear after 2 months for sure. The new one is from a private breeder and private breeders are the best way to buy a healthy pet, heh ad this bird in a cage a long time as well of course, and no illness appeared up too. If they kept hidding the illness that is getting worse, we would notice for sure. And if they were ill, its clearly gone already. Any other problem? Or you simply cant get over the fact they are simply fine and you only play to be smart?

Well, I'm just making sure. Besides, the last thing I want to do is get into an argument with someone who hardly knows what quarantine is. If you say so, then sure. They are your birds.

how many times do i have to say that i do know what that means when i was possible to tell you many many reasons why people use the quarantine? you seriously have some problem bro.

and nope again... those are grandmas birds youre wrong again...seriously..stop trying to be smart and trying to make me look like some idiot..so far you only make yourself look like an idiot here...but i forgive you.. i know its hard for you to understand it, when youre not able to realize previous facts as well

Well, if you would have told be that they have been vet checked when I brought it up, neither of us would have made ourselves "look like an idiot".

Anyways, I was just trying to remind you in the event that you did not know.

talk for yourself.. i thought it is more than clear that we first took them to the vet, kid. Thats what normal pet owners do

i did know, realize that finally

Some people do it to make sure they are healthy. Most bird lovers/aviculturists advise it to make sure. I never have done it for too long (just for a few days really). It's more a being safe than sorry approach. You can read more about it here if you's like to know more: www.budgieplace.com/faq_quaran...
