Description Spent some of my weekend working on this little man bust.
There's no shadow render here btw, all diffuse texturing. and it's a little funky around the jaw but nevermind!
118 tris.

Did you create triangles or are those four sided and two verticies are just really close together?

I'm in animation school now and I amtold that we're not supposed to use triangles or things with more than four sides. Just wondering because I'd like to make low poly stuff soon, mostly inspired by your work.

I'm not too sure which vertices you're referencing to, but there are definitely triangles in that model.
For high poly modelling, I believe triangles are a no-no since you wouldn't be able to smooth the mesh.
For low-poly triangles very common and, in lots of cases, they're essential to create silhouettes efficiently!
Maybe your tutors are referring to higher poly modelling only? Hope that helps.

I get it.

We're working on our first simple model right now but he said just to avoid triangles right now. I understand how you'd need to get triangles in a model like that just to get certain points.

Thank you very much.

usually traingles are used when modeling for things that are required to be low poly, such as videogames

really love the render style. how did you get such clear diffuse color?
when i try to render a 2D coloring, it looks dull like this [link]

Wow I found this a month or two ago on google images and fell in love with it.
figures it was you!
Very lovely and inspiring though. I'm hoping to try out some super low poly stuff soon.

I don't really know how all this modeling works but is it possible to scale this upwards? i.e. Could this be an high poly model of the same geometry?
