why is europe so much more beautiful than the u.s.? awesome picture, i love the depth to it. but i must say, if you were giving directions you couldn't just say, 'i live in the white house on the top of the hill'

Amazing...
And perhaps off-topic, but do you use a polarizing filter for outdoor shots like these? I hear it brings the sky out much better, but cuts the f-stop down by a few steps...I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth paying $70 to upgrade my mid-grade digicam with one...

they do sharpen the contrast in the sky and removes the glare. it also seems to enrich the colors a bit.

Beautiful, excelent, wonderful, you are talented Alex!!! Hey my daughter stayed there once with the Franciscan Nuns up in the hills... She said that originally how the town got it's name was that (St.) Francis as a boy was always running awaay from fights and telling on the other boys, in fact I think his parents somtimes dressed him in girls clothing so he could avoid the bullies, hence, that is how he and the town got it's name, Francis, a sissy, over the years when he became a saint, and all the good he did, they changed it to St. Francis of Assisi.... True story!!!

i notice the distortion. it is from the compression. how do i avoid this?
π: 0 β©: 1
aquapell In reply to skoey6 [2004-07-15 11:37:35 +0000 UTC]
i compress it from raw to jpeg and it looks fine, its when i resize it for submission is when i sometimes get the distortion.

skoey6 In reply to aquapell [2004-07-15 11:40:55 +0000 UTC]
and what do you use for resizing ?
the problem must appear when you save your resized work !

aquapell In reply to skoey6 [2004-07-15 11:42:21 +0000 UTC]
i use Paint Shop Pro 8. it maybe because i sharpened the shot before i resized it?

Hum ... i don't use that soft but i don't think it's because of that. i think it's only a problem of saving. I use photoshop and i get these ugly aliases when i put a low compression rate. but the sharp function should not alter the quality of the image.
