It was an innocent enough request, asking what my name was. IT WAS customary to introduce oneself and I hadn’t done that. Just because people thought of me as a monster was no excuse to behave as one. “My name…” I hesitated a moment wondering if it was just as rude to give an answer to a question you overheard rather than being asked directly. “I’m Shion” Why did I feel so damn uncomfortable telling someone my name? Lack of practice most likely but maybe it was a bit more. My name was the most precious thing I had. Sharing it with someone felt dangerous. It was probably stupid to think that what could someone do with my name anyway. Yet the hesitation was there, the fear that they wouldn’t understand how important it was to me. Or worse yet that they could take it away from me. I knew why I thought that, but I had no reason to think it was something anyone was actually capable of doing.
