This sweet little cat is one of the newest rescues at PAWS.. Her story probably started as many do. She was a beloved family pet... A warm bed to sleep on, people to pet her and say nice things, toys to play with, and plenty of food and water. But all that changed when her family - for whatever reason - no longer wanted her. Maybe they were moving. Maybe an allergy developed. Maybe they just no longer cared about her. Whatever the reason, they put her on Craig's List. We've probably all seen the ads. "Free Cat To Good Home!" And that's what happened to this girl. Except she didn't get the "good home" the woman that took her promised to give..

This little cat was found, abandoned and sick, on a farm with the cat we believe to be her mother. There was also another cat - a long hair calico - that seemed to have been on the farm a while longer than the mother and daughter. The owner of the farm is friends with one of our volunteers, and she contacted her for help. With winter quickly approaching she knew it was very important to get the cats out of the cold.

But the question still remained to the owner of the farm how the cats were getting there.. Until one day she saw a woman in an old truck driving by very slowly, then dumping cats out of the car! The farm owner asked a few other people in the area and sure enough.. it wasn't the first time that horrible woman did it. Finally they were able to confront this woman and demand to know what she was doing. She said she would search on Craig's List for cats that were "free to good home", take them while promising to give the cats a good home, then dumping them in the surrounding country areas..

We do not know exactly how many cats she has done this to. How many families would be heartbroken to know that, because of their choices, their cats may now be dead.. If you MUST get rid of your pet, NEVER put it for free on Craig's List. There are far too many people that take these animals for dogfight training, animal labs and worse.

This little girl is now in a foster home being cared for. She is very sick with an upper respiratory infection, very malnourished, and has horrible teeth. The cat we believed to be her mother, though, was not so lucky. Upon rescue, a very bad limp was noticed making us believe she had possibly been hit by a car. She was even sicker than this girl and very lethargic. Despite vet care and medication, the broken grey tortoiseshell ended up passing away...

I hope this woman is caught. And I hope people start waking up and caring.

RIP little grey torti. Watch over your daughter as we help her receive a brighter future. I only wish we had rescued you guys sooner to either have saved you, too, or so you wouldn't have had to suffer at all <3
