Simply wonderful! The affects that you can get with colored pencil, my word (Southern for "Wow!!).

I love the arrainged purples in the background to set off the contours of the subjects in front and how you used the same to seperate the young lad from his sister. And the wisps of hair around her ears, lol! That's great, Sandi! See, you act like you have way too much time on your hands, but I know that isn't so.

Keep up the fine, fine work, and thanks for sharing!

..........I met the little boy and his personality just shines? I know his mom, a little, so I have a feel for their personalities and just kept that in focus. Plus I think the photos caught expressions that were very 'them', which may be easy with 2 year olds, since they haven't learned to conceal themselves yet.Thanks. Glad you liked it.

Oh my word, that is stunningly gorgeously beautiful!! I wish I could get colored pencils to even do half my bidding, and here you have them worshiping you ... this is amazing.

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to AthenaTT [2007-11-14 21:36:53 +0000 UTC]

what an interesting way to put it you have a way with words...thanks, glad you liked it........and I've been doing pencils for about 13 years, the last 3 or 4 mostly pencils, off and on before that.....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaTT In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2007-11-14 22:20:46 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see, this is why you succeed where I fail miserably. I picked up some colored pencils once nigh on 15 year ago, and, humilated by their hysterical laughing, never picked them back up again, whereas you shook a finger at them and told them who was master 13 years ago and TA DA! Thus brilliant art hath come forth into the universe. Good on ya mate! Keep it up.

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to AthenaTT [2007-11-16 17:18:05 +0000 UTC]

LOL Thanks so much, for the nice comments AND the laugh.......actually I just threatened them with bodily harm, ie, tossing them to the floor where their inner tender leads would crack in several places, if they didn't let me in on some of their inner mysteries, and they decided to play nicely!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaTT In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2007-11-16 17:47:52 +0000 UTC]

LOL I'm so glad they play nicely with you! It's funny you should mention cracking of the tender leads... that is actually a serious problem I kept having with my colored pencils. I bought Prismacolors, which I thought was a good brand, but no matter how lightly and carefully I handled them, no matter how I sharpened them, the lead always broke. I'd sharpen gently... snap. I'd draw gently... crumble. Since I have no patience for that sort of thing I gave up colored pencils in favor of graphite. Maybe I should try a different brand someday... but I bet they'd still be impertinent. I think it's because they can sense fear. Hmph.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to AthenaTT [2007-11-24 04:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Actually, sometimes I can use a hand held sharpener and they don't break, but they will with an electric and sometimes it's the other way around. You really don't want to be in the room with me when I start sharpening them and they start grinding down and breaking away into minute stubs. (the dog slinks quietly out of the room!) Any brand will do it, even if you handle them carefully. You just don't know how they were handled in shipping, dropped, bumped, and I think sharpening can put pressure on the leads inside the wood, too, darn it! I think they sense fear and love......and I do love them dearly.

do ya mean the reddish spot on top, or the grayish area to the left side? The one of top is a grouping of tiny little veins making his nose look reddish, the other is just a shadow that might be too heavy ?? Thanks. For the comments and for liking it.

This is your finest work. The subtle pastels are perfect for the portrayal of children, yet it keeps your "way with color" by infusing it throughout the entire portrait. The lavender shadows in the children's faces are not only unique, but beautiful. I'm so, so glad you posted this.
