Description Another of my older works. This one was done in 1993, from a photo of my daughter when she was about 5. It is a little awkwardly spaced in the area, I think and could benefit from cropping. She was also carrying a red truck and has never forgiven me for putting flowers in her hands instead. I may paint the truck in someday and give it to her.

Love the hair's bright yellow sharpness hitting the soft green background and your right, this is oddly spaced. I think cropping the top passive area some would of helped.

thanks.......and cropping one side of the other a little too so it shows more movement in space.........I was younger then.

Keep the flowers! It goes with the composition.

This piece has a very Andrew Wyeth feel for me. I think it may be the hair, which looks almost like the egg tempra technique which he loved so well.

From the soft focus of the background, the the amazing detail and coloration of the image, this really highlights your talents and skills as a painter. The green of the tree leaves provides a nice contrast with the figure, and when set against the fiery golden yellow of her hair, acts as a complement and brings her forward!

Thanks. I hadn't thought of Andrew Wyeth, but after you mention it he did a wonderful job with delicately blowing hair. Of course egg tempra is wonderfull for that kind of detail. It's nice to be compared to him in any way. Thanks.

It's kind of humorous, but this is sort of a sampler, of sorts, I guess. In addition to being intrigued with the colors and all that blowing hair I wanted to try out my skills in the different techniques needed for the different areas and see what I could do.

Amazing. I'm glad you're showing some more older works. I wouldn't have guessed it was older though. The hair is awesome! I love that part! The face looks great too. That would be so neat for her I bet if you did paint in that truck and give it to her. But I like it with the flowers

Hehe, No, I would say mad, every time she thinks of it. It was her favorite truck. I really do need to redo it one of these days.

Thank you, and remember, criticism or critique doesn't just mean bad things, all that is how we interpret criticism in a general sense, but in art it means to analyze and give the good and the bad points.

That's quite all right. I attended classes at the University of Georgia for awhile after I got married and we moved to GA. One teacher had critiques in our class every Wednesday. We were to find positive comments about what worked first and then point out what we thought didn't work, so we learned to analyze what does and doesn't work in a painting (something that I've gotten rusty on). It's a learned skill, but it can also help an artist to evaluate their own work, if they can only disengage from it emotionally.
