Description Oh boy! This is another piece from my neverending colouring WiP folder, and this one's been living in there for quite a while, let me tell you! I swear, I originally grabbed & flatted these *gorgeous* lines well over a year ago (possibly more like two), when I first discovered Chris Sanders' page on dA. I completely fell in love with his work (as does everyone, I'm sure) and knew I just had to try colouring something. I grabbed this and another one (might finish that one someday too - stranger things have happened!), and immediately got cracking on Pilot Girl. Since then she's gone through at least 4 complete colour-scheme changes, and probably around 8 rounds of deleting everything but the lines & flats. I just loved the lines so much, I knew I had to really up my game to do them any kind of justice.

After finishing my last posting, I popped this open again, more just to be working on something than really with any notion of finishing it (I'm in a fairly productive mood these days - gotta make the most of it). Played around with all sorts of tricks & techniques (quite a lot of layers on this for me - 13 total), including a few things I don't usually do, and I think ... finally ... I'm actually happy with this. In fact, I think this is my new favourite piece of my own colouring, and I'm not known for being overly-fond of my own work.

Any comments or crits are gladly welcomed as ever, but I don't think I want to change much of this myself anyway.

Yeah, I hadn't really thought about it like that before, but I guess you're right. Hhmmm ... now I'm gonna have to play with trying to do that *deliberately* ... ^_^

Thankyou! I actually learned a lot of the way I colour now from doing this pic, so it still stands as once of my favourites.

These are really nice colours there.
The gentle glow, gentle shadows approach always eludes me.

It usually eludes me too, but things just kinda fell together on this pic, for some reason. And this is a good example of the point I just made in my other reply to you - I can see plenty of faults in this, but I still really love what I've done.

The thing is, you will see many more flaws than a casual viewer. It's often that I'd hate a piece of art, but people flock to it and really enjoy it. Don't you find that?

artmunki In reply to YelZamor [2011-02-20 19:59:24 +0000 UTC]

Hehe - oh aye, absolutely! That Wild West Dark Knight pic in my gallery is a great example - the original artwork is great, but my colouring is really simple, and I'd do it very differently if I tried it again. I don't hate it, but I know I could do it so much better if I hadn't just done it as a warm-up. That doesn't stop it from getting more attention than the whole of the rest of my gallery put together! It's weird, but what can ye do! ^_^

YelZamor In reply to artmunki [2011-02-20 22:27:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... the audience is strange like that.
The most faved thing in my gallery is a very old, crusty doodle of Futurama. People seem to really love it. [link]
I'm still not entirely sure if it's the unintended slash OR the obviously reused, unorigial joke. X3

artmunki In reply to YelZamor [2011-02-20 23:47:13 +0000 UTC]

I figure it's the subject matter that makes all the difference. I've noticed that most of the folk who've +fav'd the pic I mentioned seem to be more than a little fond of other pics of the Joker (post Heath, as you could probably have guessed), so *that* is what they liked ... not the quality of the work at all. I'm planning on very cynically putting this to the test by colouring up some super-popular characters (when I have the time), and see what happens then. Like, maybe see how popular Thor is when it comes out, and then do a Thor pic. I totally bet I'd be right, too! ^_^

Wow, thanks man! I'd actually really love a poster of this myself (I'm *that* pleased with myself on this one - I guess I had to actually like some of my coloring at some point), but it's not my art to print. Mind you, it's low-res anyway, so it'd have to be a pretty small poster. ^_^

Damn... you weren't kidding . No critique i'm afraid, just total amazement from the awesomeness. Plus i've got the number "612" in my head, though I don't know why that's relevant...

Heehee ... aye, that number does kinda impress itself on the mind for some reason, doesn't it! ;D

Thanks chief. I'm uber-chuffed with this one, so for a change I'm not gonna play it down. Heap on the praise!
