Description
This is my version of Royal Consort Zanden, Queen Weira's husband and father of Phobos and Elyon.He is a reserved and kind man, usually shy and somewhat passive.
Dante actually took after his grandfather a lot

Ah, Zanden! He is definitely a man that needs more attention in the fandom. In the anime he barely makes an appearance while in the comics he doesn't appear at all. It makes us wonder what part he played in Meridian's change of authority, I mean what part he played in Phobos's life and so Phobos to become the tyrant of Meridian everyone knows.
In the comics it is not even directly stated that he's dead! 
Anyway back to the picture. I really liked the design you chose for him. I liked the design he had in the anime but this is nice too! 
He looks like a kind and gentle person and he has beautiful eyes. His smile is kinda sad though. Showing to everyone that he has something he is sad or ashamed about, for example his son Phobos and everything that might be happening to him.
I love his clothes! The design seems so complicated!

Hahaha yeah I agree! He didn't have any appearances in the comics so I decided to make up my version of what he could look like based on his children
I was a bit tempted on using Zanden's anime look but I thought it could be more fun to make up a new character design
This, of course, is just a version of him in one of my infinite headcanons and universes
Here he is kind and loves his son, but like I stated he's a passive person and was usually put in his place by his wife or by the royal advisors and courtiers... a mere male consort doesn't have much say in any matter and doesn't have any real power either I think... He was probably also trained since childhood, much like the princesses of our world, to be obedient, docile and submissive.
At some point I was planning to make him want to run away with Cybele and take Phobos with them... Tho they didn't went trough with it in the end for whatever reason ( I also had an head-canon of what it could happen if they did run away taking young Phobos with them... How different could Phobos' personality be in this case?
I also think that he eventually has enough of the unfair treatment of Phobos and tries to fight, but he's simply not strong enough to protect his own son.
Oh I never though about that! that would actually be a nice idea to work with! We gotta catch up on our note conversations and start some role-plays to develop ideas!

Yeah Zanden is a forgotten figure like most consorts so people didn't really make any connections between Dante and him...

Yes I understand. Well in the anime too he didn't get much screentime but even so I liked his design there. Yours seems to be one for of adaptation to the comic.
I see. That would be interesting even if I do not see the point of it. I mean they live in the palace and royalties often have mistresses. Unless it is not performed in Meridian or that he knows that Weira would throw her anger on him or something similar. Or else I do not understand the background story and the conditions under which he would run away with his lover and his son.
(As for the other one indeed that would have a great change to Phobos most likely)

Yes he could forget or at least trying to forget because of his guilt. Maybe concealing himself walk around in disguise drinking himself to stupor in bars and inns because of his guilt because if we take under consideration that he hid himself all those years it means he never got the chance to fight in the war and he thinks himself responsible for Phobos and the fact that he got lost/prisoned afterwards.
Unless... He participates in one or two battles only (random idea alert)
He always hides his face so when Julian is nearly fallen off a cliff the concealed man grabs him and helps him up. Then he gives him random directions and disappears in the forest again.

No, they wouldn't run away with the main intent of being with each or something of the sort. Their main intention by running away was to protect Phobos.
I Don't know if you remember but in my story male magical users are seen as taboo (Because according to the Meridianites' popular beliefs men were too weak-minded to handle magic, and thus it would corrupt them and make them go insane and dangerous) and in the case of royals they have to be "purified" of such powers to be "cured". This "purification" consists of his energy core (his spirit) being slit open to form a "wound" or "Hole" in which his energy would be constantly leaking out, making him unable to use his powers. It was a procedure performed by the Light of Meridian herself.
Most royals would died right after unable to bear the tremendous pain or would go insane (ironically) and died after some agonising days.
Zanden having learned about this starts to panic after witnessing his son develop powerful magic, and wants to take him away and run. He wants to take Cybele with them for being a mother figure to Phobos mainly ( but also because he really likes the pretty green lady

Yeah I do remember that idea of yours but even so I wonder why would he have to "run away" like that. I mean Weira would probably want her son to be purified unless she had ordered her son's execution or something.

Yes that's the point and that's why I mentioned him saving Julian and after saying some random information disappearing again. He could never take a part officially firstly because he is part of the royal family himself and secondly because the rebellion is against his firstborn son. No matter how much of a tyrant he has become he cannot bring himself to harm him and so he cannot take the part of the Rebels.
On the other hand he knows that Phobos aims at hurting his younger daughter and so his heart hurts.
That could lead in much more of a sadness inside him because he feels guilty he cowered away and didn't take a part even if he knew everything. Perhaps he was even afraid of his son's anger and that was another reason he couldn't confront him and stop him.
On the other hand that adds guilt to him once more because he abandoned both of his children and especially his son.
As you can see my random idea led to a very messed up emotionally Zanden and yes imagine what a shock it would be for Elyon being told that her father lives and when she finally confronts him he is just a dirty drunkard in a tavern who will refuse even to look at her from guilt?
So yeah in general in this idea during the rebellion Zanden appears to be just the observing shadow...

Well it's like I said, most of the royals who went trough the purification DIED right after and the others who didn't ended up going insane and died some time later as well. So a "purification" was practically the same as death or even worse, a lifetime of insanity and pain, and Zanden knows this.
Zanden also knows that Weira will end up being persuaded by her advisors to perform the purification once they find out Phobos has powers (it's not execution but came on... it's not much better is it?...) and so one of the few options he sees is to take his son away... But he doesn't go trough with it.
Don't know if you get it... It kind of makes sense in my head I don't know It's still a work in progress I guess

This broken version of him filled with guilt is the most interesting thing ever to explore! Oh the possibilities!
I can also picture Elyon confronting him in the tavern...
What if it was Phobos telling her that their father is alive and abandoned both him and her like the coward he is... Or maybe it was Dante who learned his grandfather was alive ?... so many possibilities

but every human being (or Meridian being!
and maybe mourn for it. I mean if the purification backfires at him but he doesn't die he might as well feel responsible not dying for a good purpose.
And also while all believe he is dead then WOOP! He's alive!
Yes because it is an extremely painful situation to try to distinguish between your children and know that you have a way to change
everything but not being sure what's the right thing to do...I think it is horrible!
Oh God yes! And hair dirty and stuff they won't even look platinum anymore!!
Actually I even had this strange inspiration that perhaps...Phobos was the true child of their love! Think about it;
Weira wants an heir so badly that she gets obsessed with it. She gets pregnant and she is filled with happiness and Zanden is happy with her.
Weira though gets ultimately crushed when she gets Phobos, a boy instead of a girl and she becomes bitter and perhaps the years that
follow, she blaims Zanden for being "unable" to give her another child. So the second time she gets pregnant might as well be out of
duty and not of love so by that point Zanden already develops feelings for our dear wet-nurse for Phobos.
It gets messed up if you think about it; Phobos, the hated person, to actually be the first and last fruit of love between Weira and Zanden.
But Zanden loves both his children equally so it is hard for him to decide which side to takes. In the end he takes none and sinks more in
sadness and guilt and alcohol instead. And he appears here and there but no one really pays attention apart from Julian who was saved by
the mysterious cloaked figure.

I thought about the scene in my head!
I even thought that the day she sees him for the first time, is after the whole Diego incident and when she knows that she is pregnant. I mean only if she tells him "I'm pregnant" and "I can't do this on my own!" might actually convince Zanden coming back to the palace with her.
I had an idea. I thought about a battle in which Zanden appears in the middle just to kill a creature before it killed someone else. I think that someone might recognize him there. Maybe Vathek. He could widen his eyes and whisper something like "It's you! Zanden!"
Zanden removes his hood for a second and there is a moment of recognition but Zanden runs away again leaving Vathek (or whoever) in wonder. He would be so shocked that maybe wouldn't speak to anyone about it. Maybe one day Vathek hears Elyon mourn for her parents (especially if she had emotional breakdowns after Diego's thing) so maybe Vathek tells her about it.
She gets restless and wants to meet him so Vathek has no other choice but search for him and lead them to the inn where he had been drinking. Maybe he could say something like:
"I warn you, your Majesty, he's not...going to be a beautiful sight..." or something similar.
I dunno why I thought THAT far!

Also, I really like his clothes. These little... stones (that moment when you are an art historian but in other language and can't express yourself) look really good. The details make the drawing really nice to look at and I know that's not even your final form!
