Something for fun. I usually give the students in my digital painting class at BYU a character design assignment for the midterm, and this time I decided to do it with them.Related content

Hehe, lil Harpooner dude. He's really cute. Always amazes me what people can create using software these days!! Things tend to become 'alive' more and more.
In my stories the Harpooners usually are the bad guys, unfortunately. I think he would be the single one making friends with the atlantis-culture people

Harpooners are the bad guys when you're talking about Dolphins and baby seals, but this story is about dark beasts of the abyss. So it's okay.Β Unless you find bug-eyed multi-toothed leviathans cute, too.

I started with a softened/simplified photo overlay for the texture, then painted over the top of that.

They were to design a character from a popular fairy tale/story but with a twist and then paint that character with full surfaces and lighting.
