He's the kinda guy that's cute and charming... right until he blurts out something he didn't think over. Sheesh, he could've listened to Shep first, at the very damn least. I liked him at first since he sounded like KotOR's Carth Onasi (same voice actor = sweet memories), but Horizon really pissed me off. I'd love a "punch Kaidan to make him listen" interrupt there.

Are you kidding me? As soon as I get the first Mass Effect again (my other copy broke, I"m still sad), I'm blowin' that mope-a-dope the frick up on Virmire. No complaints, no 'ands', 'ifs' or 'buts'. Everybody's tired of him and he NEEDS TO GO!
Plus, I'm still mad Garrus isn't a love interest in the first one. You've failed me in this regard Bioware.

Anyway, I don't really mind either character (Ash or Kaiden). They both have their good points to go along with their bad points, just like every other character.
For example, if i was going to rant about a character, it would be Garrus (baring Jacob since almost everyone agrees his character was just too bland). Don't get my wrong, I love that guy, he's awesome, but for the first two games he was just WAY over-hyped. Of all the squad mates he had the least dialogue and most boring/overdone story (the bad-cop character who's tired of playing by the rules). Then in the second game to actually get INTERESTING dialogue you had to romance him (which I didn't do till my 4th character). Besides that, he had almost the exact same personality, with a touch of 'failed my team' tragic story. I though where he really got developed was number 3, and since i played through 3 before I romanced him in 2, that was when I really started to like him. Now I play the other games and see a bigger story than was presented originally, and I don't care as much that he was so over-hyped for doing NOTHING in the first game. So, sum up: at first I was okay with Garrus but annoyed by all the attention he got, but after that he got more development he became one of my favorites. (seriously, he's in my top 3 now, and that just because I can't order my top three to perfection. too much awesomeness)
So, like i said, all the characters have good and bad points, but if we just let ourselves get fixed on the bad, we fail to see the good. Think of how many friends you wouldn't have right now if you let the bad parts of their personalities be all you focused on?
To end, remember, there is more to Ash then you mentioned in your comment. Like I already said, poetry for her, then the relationship with her family. That shows a different level of compassion. Also, remember when she called out the Terra Firma party on rasicm. Yeah, I know, everyone says SHE'S racist, but it's more that she's a patriot from how I've analyzed her. She's distrustful of other NATIONS more than she is other SPECIES is my take, and I thought about it a lot, considering many facets of her personality before coming to this conclusion.
Also, in the elevator rides, she's the only one who speaks positively to Tali, an alien, about her species relationship to the Geth, encouraging her to change other people's opinions of Quarians. She may have begun a bit narrow minded, but just like Pressley, she learned and humbled herself, allowing her mind to open. This is one facet of her personality I considered before slapping the label 'racist' on her like everyone else does.
Sorry, this was much longer than I intended. I guess I just spent so long thinking about Ashley's character I got overly passionate about it. Hope my long reply didn't bother you too much. Have a good one!

Yeah Ashley wasn't as annoying sometime but that doesn't discount that she's supposed to be the one no one really likes. I don't like Kaidan either and that's because he's just so pushy about getting with Shepard in the first one. Ugh I just wanted to punch him through the screen and yell 'NOT INTERESTED!' Somethin...
I don't remember much of the elevator ride talks (I sadly haven't played the game in a long time and don't have my own copy) but at least she didn't treat Tali like crap. Liara though? That's a useless character if I ever saw one... shit I just wanted to push her through the airlock after just one conversation with her.... but I digress.
Garrus, on the other hand, I picked him as an LI hands down, every time. Got Thane a time or two for kicks but you can snag Tali if you try it. How about them apples?
