Description I was trying to think of a way i could represent a way i feel about my fibromyalgia. I had this image of a face trying to lift her chin above a black swirl, trying not to be engulfed by it, trying to keep her spirits up.

This is what resulted.

Perhaps the patterns in the circles are a bit too pretty - but they do at least have lots of barbs in them ... lots of sharp bits that could stick into her.

Done in ink on paper, but I had to do a bit of fixing up in Photo shop as the blacks don't scan all that well (little reflections of white come out as white spots).

You can still see the influence of Jaewalker here. I can't seem to get away from the circles at the moment.

I think what's great about your art involving Fibromyalgia, is that looking at it almost makes one proud to have or proud for having put up with it as opposed to feeling shame.

Great work!

I think I'm proud for the efforts I put forward to live as normal a life as possible. It still prevents me from working full time, and I'd be more than happy not to have to deal with it ... but yeah I congratulate myself every morning I manage to convince myself I really do have to get out of bed.

Very interesting interpretation! The way I've been feeling lately, I'd add more spikes around some of of the smooth circles.

Yeah ... it is just an interpretation though. It shoudl really have much more dark black areas in my opinion.

Wonderful interpretation, Interesting how you went at it too. Fibro truly can feel like knives. Mine's been acting up a bit the past couple weeks. Excellent job here.

You're so kind.
Maybe your aching from all the knitting and crocheting? LOL
Seriously though - they were one of the first thing si Had to give up. Cross stitch hurts if I do it for too long too.

I think if I had to give them up entirely I'd cry buckets. I'll do them till I can't any longer..

There's always hot water. I got so desperate to draw one day (and my hand and arm was killing me). So I made up a bucket of the hottest water I could stand to put my arm in and soaked for a few minutes. It definitely helps.

Hmmm interesting...I'll have to remember that next time I get too sore to knit.

I love the title.
I could understand the emotion you were trying to get across.
Including the points and barbs sticking out, with the face trying to break free.
A nice emotive piece.

Hmm....I really love the bold outlining of the face and how it sharply blends in with the black. It brings depth and it helps the amazingly patterned and detailed circles stand out Plus, as usual, you make lines flawlessly!

Well, I am totally honoured.

The unbroken black spaces were deliberate, partly to express my feelings and partly to develop my skills using more flat black.

I'm so glad you like it.

astraldreamer In reply to Katerina-Art [2010-04-03 02:15:58 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou so much. It took perhaps a little longer than some of my other 'pattern' works, while I decided what to put in each space. I do like it, but I'm concerned it is a little more 'rigid' than some of my other works.

Well, I myself am a work in progress.
