(let me add something, which came to me in memory---I remembered earrings, and came back to see...you have these delicate, thin stones in her ears and necklace and even, in maybe a different form, her hair; and they harmonize very subtly: their green complements the several greens in the photo, incl. her eyes, by being so saturated & deep; and they're wholly vertical, giving just the right amount of 'vertical line' to the whole---and I mean, I realize these things can be conscious or wholly intuitive, but they seem the very atoms of "photographic seeing" and they brought me back! Even the little stone atop her head---a different stone, maybe lighter---it's like it snuck-in at the last moment to make itself 'heard'...ok, I just had to add this, talk about staying power! Loving & thoughtful work, Athansor. Truly...)

I wanted to comment on this because it's more 'mainstream' than some of your other shots, at least on the surface. Long ago, we did a study of the differences between painting portraiture & photographic portraiture; and one thing that kept coming up was the length of time a painter works on a portrait, which seems to take away the 'immediacy' common to photography. But the wonderful thing about this portrait is that you managed to get the best of both worlds, a momentary capture and a permanent vision. For one thing, you do what fine photographers often do, capture your subject in several movements at once---her torso seems leaning almost as if to get up; her head tilts as if to lunge a bit; and her posture relative to the couch seems ready to leave it or find a different position on it. Yet, you captured solidity, she is wholly where she is, she is no more transitory than settled; and you've portrayed (as in the best portraiture) a true human presence. And subtle things emerge: The lines of the wood-frame framing her face & moving with her angle, which I suppose is pretty basic but you do it with delicacy & panache; and one of the subtlest is your makeup, because the red on her right cheek draws us back to the torso & into the mass of the picture (the 'quiet mystery of makeup', said one friend), and even harmonizes a bit with the couch-frame itself. And when one looks at other treatments of this model, one can see you captured a wholly different side to her. But what struck me most was how you had her glance into the camera, as if---after asking her to lean---you said, "here," and she glanced at you, unperturbed but quizzical: You 'caught' her, poised in the moment and yet solid as a mountain. You're a very sensitive artist. (Ok, I'll let you rest! Your work is like fine wine. Happy bd, btw...)

I have this immovable mountain of 230 or so comments, that I never seem to get below, no matter how many hours I spend commenting...last night, for instance, I spent ALL NIGHT responding to messages, and managed to make it through about 300 or so--which only gets me back down to that 220.
Anyway, since most of the messages I haven't answered require long replies, I never get very many done...but I've started going to the "back of the pile", by going through my galleries, and looking for anything I haven't responded to *there*--which is how I'm digging up some of your old comments.
And yes, that WAS when you still spent more time commenting...and I was in awe of your powers! I'm pleased to see that you ran out of steam, eventually, too...makes you more human. (I think we all went through that...at first--we tried to comment all the time...then, we just give up, and comment sometimes...but often fave without commenting. I know that's me, anyway. No time for anything else! )
(And you're not lazy...just busy with other things! dA would eat all your time, if you allowed it to--and you'd never make any art! )

Excellent and impeccable portraiture as usual! That mixture of relaxed expression and the intensity in her eyes is quite startling and beautiful ...and of course the lighting is admirable with the great modeling of the skin tones ...and that gorgeous shimmer on the hair.

Lovely work...as always! It's nice to see this piece finalized...I thought the proofs were excellent. I especially love the color you achieved...so warm and rosy. It really brings out the green in her eyes.
