“Surprise!” Aryn enthuses to his brother, happily holding out a sheet of paper.
“Thanks?” Mavi says, taking the piece of paper into his own hands and reading over it.
Dear Mr. Dwyer,
Congratulations on your purchase of Corroboree: 6 month old Australian Warmblood, son of AH Merrijg and AH Cuburra. He will be available for pickup on this Sunday, December 15th.
Mavi stares at the paper in shock, re-reading it several times over. “What?”
”Well... I found this foal for sale, eligible for the Australian Warmblood Futurity, whatever that means, and I felt, well, he looks cute. I hope you like him,” Aryn flushed, rubbing the back of his neck.
Mavi sighs, setting the paper down. “Aryn, that’s very thoughtful of you. It’s just, he’s 6 months old! I’m not ready for that. I’m twelve for heavens sake! I have to call Bennett,” he says, standing up to hug Aryn before walking to the kitchen counter to grab his phone before stepping outside.
Mavi quickly dials Bennett's number, sighing and pressing the phone to his ear.
After a few rings, Bennett picks up.
”Hey.”
”Hey, so uh.”
”What’s up?”
”Aryn bought me a 6 month old.”
”What?!”
“Yeah,” Mavi sighs, “I know I’m not ready for that at all. I don’t think this can be undone. I’ll text you the information on the foal once we get off the phone.”
He hears Bennett sigh. “It’ll be fine. Who knows, maybe this foal will shape up to be good for you. We’ll work through it.”
”Okay. Thank you, I’ll go send you the information on it. Bye.”
”Bye.”
The line disconnects.
Mavi quickly sends Bennett a picture of the foal’s pedigree and when to pick it up before he heads back inside.

December 15th
The foal has been sitting in the round-pen for around 20 minutes now. When he first arrived, he was bucking in circles, running around, and screeching at the top of his lungs. Now, he’s just standing there, glaring at Mavi, Aryn, and Bennett as they stand along the fence line.
”Want to go in and see if he’ll let you walk him on a lead?” Bennett says, breaking the silence, looking pointedly at Mavi.
”Uh, sure.” Mavi says. He takes a deep breath. Mavi opens the gate to the round-pen, halter resting on his shoulder.
Mavi slowly walks forward, approaching the ornery looking foal.
”Hey, bud,” Mavi coos, sticking out a hand towards the little guy. The foal glares at Mavi’s hand, but then reaches his little nose out to sniff it. Mavi then slowly places the lead rope around the foal’s neck and holds it in place.
The foal remains still, probably having this done before.
”Good boy,” he quietly says, pulling the tiny halter over his face.
Mavi smiles and rubs the foal’s neck, praising him for letting him put the halter on. The foal kind of just ignores his presence, which Mavi is fine with.
He takes a couple steps back, holding onto the lead rope.
”I did it,” he calls, turning to Bennett.
