Description We have all heard it before, it’s a simple phrase that your parents have probably warned you with a few times. Not here. Sure there are streets and roads and whatnot around here but they are fewer then the more developed areas of the city. These little kids grew up here away from the dangers and busy lifestyle of the city while living in the city. So soon when this area gets torn down a few high rise apartment buildings take its place with roads and shopping and all the liveliness of the modern world these kids are going to hear it a lot more.

"Modern" and "Progress" do NOT mean the same things in fact "Progress" doesn't even mean what most people believe it does!

It's s shame really that that particular area is poised to be developed, but I guess it's a problem any city faces at the moment - gentrification seems to be the new buzzword. The colours that the Fuji has given you here are very nice, seem to compliment the mood of the faces. How do you find it working with the Mamiya 6?

avotius In reply to londonxpress [2006-03-22 16:10:10 +0000 UTC]

The mamiya 6 has a couple problems which made me end up selling it a little bit ago. First I dont trust the build quality of the body at all. The first one I had blew apart on me and the second one I got always gave me a bad ibe that it could do the same thing. The mamiya lenses are tack sharp but sorta hard to focus because the rangefinder base is sorta small for such large lenses. If you are shooting landscapes, no problem, anything else, be carefull. Also the way I work the mamiya didnt compliment my velvia lust too well, the lenses prefer provia or some lower contrast film otherwise the highlights get blown out really easy. I also didnt like the fact that it didnt have tll metering, a few time where an overhead sun totaly fooled the meter. Loading the camera was easy but I dont like the film door, it feels flimsy and cheap and it was the main thing the blew apart on my last body. Also I dont know what moron designed the lens shades or caps because if you have the shade on you cant put the cap on and if you do have the cap on with the lens shade on then you cant get it out without taking off the shade. Design Flaw.

In the end its your typical mamiya, really sharp really contrasty well built lenses, with a lousy built body (every mamiya body ive used has been lousy including the mamiya 6, 7, 645e, rb67 and rz67[a little better then the rest])

So yeah I ended up selling it and the two lenses I had, but I hope to replace it with either a Leica M7 or that new Zeiss Ikon.

londn In reply to avotius [2006-03-23 02:59:38 +0000 UTC]

just get the m6

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

avotius In reply to londn [2006-03-23 07:10:38 +0000 UTC]

it might come down to that actually, had a lousy couple of months bussiness wise so ya know, might have to cut my losses and just go with it

if I got an m6 it would be a ttl btw, not because of the ttl flash nonesence, but that larger shutter speed dial, gota love that

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

londn In reply to avotius [2006-03-23 16:59:48 +0000 UTC]

it doesnt make a difference, but i guess if you're in it for the shutter speed dial.. then to each their own

The Leica sounds very exotic

That's too bad to hear about the Mamiya - I had a 645 Pro for about a year and it felt very rugged (except for the power grip - just didn't feel secure enough on the body). I had been looking at picking up either a Mamiya 6 or 7, but I might hold off for a bit and read up on them. Thanks for your input!

avotius In reply to londonxpress [2006-03-22 16:37:17 +0000 UTC]

well if you are really into looking for one then I highly suggest you get the 6 over the 7 simply because the 7 is built even worse then the 6. But on the other hand if you think a 6x6 50mm lens is not wide enough then you gota go for the 7, which will be at least 2x the price. keh.com has some 6 bodies and lenses there with a good return policy, thats where i got mine, when it exploded they echanged it no questions asked. On the other hand if you want to save a lot of bucks look on ebay, you can get a 6 and all 3 lenses for less then 1500 if you hunt a bit.

Also the mamiya 7 doesnt have the colapsing lens mount which is so awsome, I wish more camera had that...if you have any questions at all about the 6, 6mf or 7 just ask, I did a lot of research, pity it didnt pan out, camera just didnt give me the right vibe.

And yes, that leica sounds very exotic but more then that, very expensive. I have recently learned however that a prefer a 35mm rather then a 120 camera due to the way I shoot so...yeah.

ps. the 6's shutter sound is amount the quietest ive ever heard, not as silent at a leica but its so quiet....not many people notice when you trip that shutter

It's sad that so much has to give way to modern things. I feel that all over the world countries start losing their uniqueness because they feel that they have to wipe out older, unique areas of their cities to make way for...McDonalds...and places such as that.

It makes me sad.
